Description:

Challenges in the field of instructional design are significant today. Which instructional design approach works best in which setting and why, given a particular target group and the intended learning outcomes, is a complex question to answer. The chair’s remit will be to make a significant contribution to a better understanding which instructional approaches and combinations of approaches work best.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Faculty of Health Medicine and Life Sciences (FHML) is looking for a professor who will contribute to the innovation of education within our faculty. This position is embedded within the School of Health Professions Education (SHE) and the Department of Educational Development & Research (O&O). SHE is a graduate school for research in the field of education, training and innovation in the health domain. O&O has a long history of successfully combining educational innovation and research. This is one of the reasons why O&O and SHE are among the prominent groups in the field of healthcare education, both
locally and globally. As our new professor, it is your role to contribute to this effective combination of education and research. Organizing and managerial tasks are also part of your role.

Education

  • You make an important contribution to the innovation of education and training within the various bachelor’s and master’s programs of the FHML.
  • You fulfill a leading role in realizing the core activities of FHML’s Instructional Design and E
  • Learning Task Force.
  • You make an active contribution in various teaching roles.
  • You know how to translate educational research into innovative educational practices.

Research

  • You initiate research activities and acquire external funding to contribute to a recognizable line of research in the field of instructional design.
  • You have expertise in promoting learning aligned with the complexity of professional practice and how teaching should be designed to promote the intended learning outcomes.
  • You contribute to conceptual developments in the field of health professions education research and have experience with various (innovative) research methods.
  • You initiate multidisciplinary research collaborations and work together in an international network of researchers.
  • You supervise candidates working on their doctoral dissertation in teams.

Leadership

  • You take on coordinating responsibilities in the field of education, research and you contribute to policy development.
  • You perform management tasks within the Department O&O and SHE.
  • You know how to motivate and inspire others.

REQUIREMENTS

The person we are looking has:

  • Completed relevant training in educational sciences, psychology or other social sciences or in the healthcare domain with additional qualifications in educational or social sciences, and has experience with education and training in healthcare;
  • A doctoral degree;
  • Expertise in the field of instructional design, as demonstrated by a high level of scientific productivity, such as publications in peer-reviewed journals and completed PhD projects;
  • Gained national and international recognition as a creative researcher in the field of learning and instruction;
  • A proven ability to acquire external funding for research purposes
  • Extensive experience with supervising doctoral students;
  • Contributed to national and/or international scientific bodies and organisations within the field, as demonstrated by relevant editorial board memberships of international journals or invitations to speak at international conferences;
  • Proven leadership and organisational qualities;
  • Extensive experience in education, including the University Teaching Qualification (BKO in Dutch) as well as expertise in the field of student-centred education;
  • A vision of how to innovate education and improve the quality of curricula within the FHML;
  • A relevant regional, national and international network of educational researchers with whom external funding for research and innovation in education has been acquired or is in preparation.
  • Mastery of the Dutch and English language (oral and writing) or is willing to learn these languages.
