MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: PROFESSOR

  • PhD in Sociology.
  • Demonstrated experience (at least ten [10] years) in facilitating learning and teaching in higher education.
  • A record of quality peer reviewed publications - at least 18 articles in accredited journals and/or books or chapters in books published by reputable presses, or equivalent recognised outputs.
  • A record of academic conference presentations both locally and internationally.
  • A record of successful postgraduate supervision, including graduated Master’s and PhD students.
  • Evidence of expertise, national standing, and definite international presence in his/her/their field of research.
  • Evidence of the integration of community engagement for societal impact with learning and teaching and/or research.
  • Evidence of ability to obtain research grants.
  • Recommendation: Professor / Associate Professor
  • An NRF rating or a demonstrated potential to obtain a rating.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR

Associate Professor: The successful applicant must have a PhD in Sociology as well as a strong record of publications, research, teaching, supervision and the running of research projects at university level. Experience in academic leadership will serve as a recommendation.

  • PhD in Sociology.
  • Demonstrated experience (at least eight [8] years) in facilitating learning and teaching in higher education.
  • A record of quality peer reviewed publications - at least 15 articles in accredited journals and/or books or chapters in books published by reputable presses, or equivalent recognised outputs.
  • A record of academic conference presentations both locally and internationally.
  • A record of successful postgraduate supervision, including graduated Master’s and preferably PhD students.
  • Evidence of expertise, national standing, and definite international presence in his/her/their field of research.
  • Evidence of the integration of community engagement for societal impact with learning and teaching and/or research.
  • Evidence of ability to obtain research grants.
