Description:

Overview:
Positioned in the Utah State University College of Humanities & Social Sciences, the Transforming Communities Institute (TCI) and the Department of Social Work are cultivating meaningful partnerships across Utah to address access to justice issues among low-to-moderate income individuals and families.
Currently under development is TCI and Social Work’s first access to justice initiative, the Community Justice Advocate (CJA) certificate program. Applying under the Utah Supreme Court’s legal regulatory sandbox, the CJA certificate program will train social workers and other human service professionals to provide limited legal services in designated practice areas and serve as Human Alternative Legal Providers. The program will offer non-credit and for-credit certificate options for participants
Responsibilities:
The Access to Justice Program Coordinator will play a pivotal role in the development, initiation, and management of the new CJA Program, along with future access to justice initiatives. The role encompasses the following responsibilities/duties:

Curriculum/Training Development, Coordination, Management, & Delivery:

  • Develop Canvas modules, activities, and assessments for the online and Zoom-based training program.
  • Instruct and facilitate course activities for a cohort of approximately 25 students.
  • Coordinate synchronous (Zoom) sessions, including creating lectures and engaging activities.

Program Development & Management:

  • Conduct research on program development, focusing on communities where the service has not been offered.
  • Establish and lead an advisory panel, conducting monthly meetings for feedback.
  • Host meetings with community partners, assemble an advisory panel, and host monthly feedback sessions.
  • Lead the Sandbox application and write a program manual for operations.
  • Manage recruitment of practitioners/students for the CJA program, including marketing, attending events, and admissions processes.
  • Coordinate and lead meetings with partners, community leaders, and stakeholders.
  • Coordinate and oversee public relations efforts including managing community outreach, developing marketing materials, engaging with potential stakeholders, and handling media relations, including speaking with the media.

Program Evaluation, Other Research, & Impact Promotion:

  • Oversee program evaluation, including design, analysis, and report writing for the Sandbox, funders, and the community.
  • Lead additional research projects resulting in presentations and peer-reviewed journal articles.
  • Manage a graduate research assistant and collaborate on research projects with social work faculty.

Administration:

  • Seek private and public funding for long-term program sustainability.
  • Build rapport and relationships with potential funders, including legislative appropriations, state/federal grants, foundation grants, and private corporate and individual investments.
  • Write funding proposals and contribute to efforts in securing financial support.

Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in Social Work or a related field (Criminal Justice, Community Development, Law, Public Health/Administration, Human Services, etc.)
  • Knowledge in political science or legal practice.
  • Experience in research, teaching, curriculum development, and grant writing.
  • Strong research and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Familiarity with higher education institutional practices.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Skilled with computer programs and related software (technical aptitude).
  • Excellent critical thinking skills.
  • Skilled in creative problem-solving.
  • Skilled with basic office equipment, including printers, copiers, and telephone systems.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential business data and personal information.
  • Ability to work without supervision.
  • Knowledge of University policies and procedures.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
