Description:

Role Overview:
1. Strategic Planning and Leadership:
o Lead the pastoral vision that aligns with the school Vision and Mission.
o Lead, manage, and have strategic oversight of the implementation of the
school's systems.
o Lead in the development and implementation of schemes of work (Character
and Virtues Education), policies, and strategies across the High School
section.
o Lead in the development of processes to enhance the way in which the
pastoral system works and is delivered.
o Plan and manage finances necessary for the department/pastoral system to
function.
o Lead and implement the Co-curricular programme and House system,
inclusive of whole school house events.
o Lead and oversee the student leadership system.
2. Curriculum, Teaching, and Learning:
o Demonstrate a strong grasp of subject matter to plan, prepare, and deliver
lessons on Character and Virtues Education.
o Provide a role model for staff in pedagogy and motivate staff to develop
effective practices in teaching and learning.
o Provide regular constructive feedback to students on how they can improve
and maximize their potential.
3. Discipline and Conduct:
o Have general oversight of school discipline, ensuring that good behavior is
promoted and rewarded, and deal with any issues promptly and fairly, in
accordance with school policies.
o Manage any serious disciplinary cases involving students.
o Manage and update codes of conduct and discipline and related policies.
o Manage school rewards and sanctions to ensure that they are being used
fairly.
o Monitor and maintain records of students& social development.
4. After School Care Services:
o Lead and manage the daily after school care services, maintaining and
enhancing the quality of provision to ensure a nurturing and supportive
learning environment dedicated to the well-being and education of students.
o Maintain communications with parents and guardians.
o Manage supervision rotas, beginning/end of term programmes, new student
induction, and other administrative requirements.
5. Professional Development:
o Participate in department meetings, school-wide training events, and attend
relevant training workshops as identified by the school.
o Work with staff in the department, other Program Heads, and school leaders
to review curriculum, systems, and processes.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
1. Educational Background:
o A bachelor& degree in education, psychology, social work, or a related field from
a recognized university.
o A postgraduate degree in education, educational leadership, or a related field is
highly desirable.
o Recognized teaching qualification, such as PGDE (Postgraduate Diploma in
Education) or PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education).
2. Experience:
o Minimum of 5 years of full-time teaching experience in a high school setting,
demonstrating a strong track record of effective classroom instruction and student
engagement.
o Minimum of 2 years of experience in a supervisory or leadership position within
an educational setting, such as a head of department, grade level coordinator, or
student support coordinator.
o Proven experience in developing and implementing pastoral care programs,
character education initiatives, or student development activities.
o Demonstrated experience in managing student discipline, resolving conflicts, and
promoting a positive school culture.
3. Knowledge and Skills:
o Deep understanding of adolescent development, social-emotional learning, and
best practices in pastoral care and student support.
o Strong knowledge of curriculum design and instructional strategies for character
education and virtues education.
o Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills to effectively
collaborate with colleagues, engage with students and parents, and build positive
relationships within the school community.
o Proficient in using technology to support student learning, communication, and
administrative tasks.
4. Personal Qualities:
o Passion for working with high school students and commitment to their holistic
development and well-being.
o High level of emotional intelligence, empathy, and ability to connect with students
from diverse backgrounds.
o Positive, growth-oriented mindset and willingness to learn and adapt to new
challenges and opportunities.
o Strong moral compass and ability to model and promote the school& values and
ethos.
o Resilient, flexible, and able to work effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced
educational environment.
5. Additional Qualifications:
o Experience in organizing and leading co-curricular activities, student leadership
programs, or community service initiatives.
o Proficiency in additional languages, particularly those relevant to the student
population served.
o Relevant certifications or training in areas such as counseling, coaching,
mentoring, or restorative practices.
o Familiarity with the Cambridge curriculum and assessment framework is a plus.

goals and objectives.

students, colleagues, parents, and other stakeholders.
o Ability to build positive, trusting relationships with children to foster their
personal growth, social development, and emotional well-being.
o Skilled in active listening, providing guidance, and offering support to students
facing challenges or difficulties.
o Proficient in communicating complex information clearly and concisely to
diverse audiences, both verbally and in writing.
o Demonstrated ability to collaborate with colleagues, share best practices, and
contribute to a positive and inclusive school culture.
3. Pastoral Care and Student Support:
o Deep understanding of the social, emotional, and developmental needs of
high school students.
o Proven ability to create and maintain a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning
environment that promotes student well-being and success.
o Experience in developing and implementing effective pastoral care programs,
including character education, virtues education, and social-emotional
learning initiatives.
o Skilled in identifying and supporting students with diverse needs, including
those facing academic, social, or emotional challenges.
o Proficient in managing and resolving student disciplinary issues in a fair,
consistent, and restorative manner.
4. Curriculum and Instruction:
o Strong knowledge of character education and virtues education principles and
best practices.
o Ability to develop and deliver engaging, age-appropriate lessons and learning
experiences that promote students' moral, ethical, and social development.
o Proficient in designing and implementing assessments to measure student
growth and inform instructional decisions.
o Skilled in providing constructive feedback and guidance to help students
maximize their potential and achieve their goals.
5. Continuous Improvement and Professional Development:
o Commitment to ongoing professional growth and staying current with the
latest research, trends, and best practices in pastoral care, student
development, and educational leadership.
o Willingness to seek feedback, reflect on one& own practice, and adapt to
changing needs and circumstances.
o Ability to facilitate professional development opportunities for staff, promoting
a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
o Openness to exploring innovative approaches and technologies to enhance
student support, engagement, and success.
