Description:

AS THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT, YOU WILL HAVE:

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience working within the Victorian Aboriginal Community.
  • Experience in employment and or development programs particularly those with an Aboriginal focus.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including ability to negotiate and engage on high level matters with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to use initiative to succeed in this busy role, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability to meet changing work requirements.
  • The ability to work within a team environment to achieve a strong commitment to meeting customer needs.

REQUIREMENTS AND RELEVANT INFORMATION:

  • One (1) x full time, ongoing position available.
  • Position will be located at the Victoria Police Centre (VPC), 311 Spencer Street, Docklands.
  • Applicants must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or hold a valid work permit or visa.
  • The successful candidate will be required to undergo pre-employment checks which may include fingerprint checks and misconduct screening.

Responsibilities:

ABOUT THE ROLE:

This is an Aboriginal Designated Position, classified under ‘Special Measures’ of Section 12 of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010. Only Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people are eligible to apply.
This position sits in the Talent, Attraction and Programs (TAP) Team within the Human Resource Department. The aim of TAP is to help build the workforce of the future by employing people who are aligned to the Victoria Police values and that have the attributes, skills and experience required to serve the community in different roles across the organisation. Further to this, the TAP Team aims to build a workforce that reflects diversity across the community that we serve, and is achieved by targeting, supporting, and staying connected with talent.
Currently, TAP oversees a number of employment programs specifically designed for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
Reporting directly to the Senior Employment Program Manager, the Program Manager, Aboriginal Recruitment & Employment will primarily be responsible for helping to oversee existing employment programs, as well as taking a lead on the introduction of other role readiness programs.
In this role, you will work closely with the Victoria Police Workforce Diversity and Inclusion Team, Priority and Safer Communities Division, internal and external partners, and the Victorian Aboriginal community to deliver positive employment outcomes.

YOUR DUTIES WILL INCLUDE:

  • Providing specialist knowledge and understanding of the Victorian Aboriginal community, especially in relation to barriers to employment, employment retention and career development.
  • Developing key programs and initiatives to assist and support prospective applicants who identify as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander.
  • Providing high level expertise and advice on the recruitment process, policies and programs to internal and external audiences, particularly those with an Aboriginal focus.
