POSITION OVERVIEW

As a member of the Performance and Business Planning Team with a main focus in Cardiac Sciences and reporting to the Business Analyst Lead, the Programmer/Statistical Analyst will:

  • Prepare data and perform statistical analysis of Cardiac Sciences (CS) databases and associated datasets, ensuring that data integrity/quality is maintained
  • Provide information technology support for CS databases and applications as requested.
  • Perform spatial analyses and data mapping as required.
  • Maintain ongoing professional competencies.
  • Support Regional projects and analysis in additional program areas as appropriate.

EXPERIENCE

  • Experience using statistical software packages such as SAS or STATA is required.
  • Working knowledge of other programming languages (e.g., VB, VBA) and familiarity with SQL is preferred.
  • Familiarity with commonly applied statistical methods (e.g., logistic regression and Cox regression analysis) is a strong advantage.
  • Experience in linking and analyzing large health databases is an asset.
  • Previous experience generating statistical reports is an asset.
  • Knowledge of and experience with GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS) is an asset.
  • Knowledge of and experience with reporting software (e.g., Cognos Impromptu) is an asset.

EDUCATION (DEGREE/DIPLOMA/CERTIFICATE)

  • Undergraduate degree or diploma is required from a recognized post-secondary institution; a focus on information technology, computer sciences, mathematics or statistics is preferred.
  • Master’s degree in a relevant area is an asset (e.g. Master of Science degree in Computer Sciences, Mathematics, Statistics, or Epidemiology).
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience in health services/health related research as recognized by the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority may be considered.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint) is required.
  • Must have excellent analytical skills, problem-solving abilities, oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to write technical reports with a high level of proficiency.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated experience and ability in developing and maintaining excellent working relationships with multi-disciplinary healthcare professionals, staff and management from multiple sites within the region, including the ability to facilitate, collaborate and resolve conflict.
  • Superior organizational skills including the ability to manage multiple projects and work effectively under pressure to meet established deadlines.
  • Superior communication and problem-solving skills.
