We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Project Accountant to join a high-performance project team dedicated to delivering construction projects in the Port Hope, ON region. As a Project Accountant, you will be responsible for providing project accounting leadership and support for these projects, ensuring compliance, accuracy, and efficient financial management. You will work closely with the project team, vendors, and clients to ensure timely and accurate invoicing, cost reconciliation, and financial reporting.
This position is based out of Mississauga or Port Hope office

What you’ll be working on:

  • Oversee cost management activities, including cost reconciliation, analysis, and control measures.
  • Review and validate vendor and consultant invoices for compliance, accuracy, and appropriate cost allocation.
  • Manage cost codes and ensure costs are properly billed to the client in accordance with contract terms.
  • Prepare and submit timely and accurate cost-plus billings to the client, adhering to project terms and contractual requirements.
  • Resolve billing discrepancies and issues to facilitate quick turnaround time on necessary revisions.
  • Keep up to date with outstanding payments and outstanding cash collections, providing reporting and follow up as required.
  • Collaborate closely with the project team to gather relevant financial information and provide regular updates on project financial status.
  • Conduct regular cost reviews and reconciliations, identifying and resolving discrepancies or variances.
  • Support accounts payable processes to enable timely processing invoices and payments.
  • Ensure accuracy and integrity of project-related financial records, including profit and loss (P&L) and operational balance sheet accounts.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of cost control measures and financial reporting systems.
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to address financial inquiries and resolve billing-related issues.
  • Prepare and present financial reports and analysis to project stakeholders, including management and clients.
  • Assist in the preparation of project budgets, forecasts, and financial projections.
  • Assist/liaison with auditor during annual audit.
  • Support the District Finance team in improvement initiatives and ad hoc assignments

What we are looking for:

  • University degree in a related field of study
  • CPA or other relevant professional designation considered an asset
  • Relevant project accounting experience of at least 5 years.
  • In depth understanding of project accounting, project management and project delivery formats.
  • Advanced Excel proficiency, ability to work with complex formulae, XLOOKUP/INDEXMATCH functions, arrays, and VBA are considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of Viewpoint Vista and/or 4castplus an asset.
  • Industrial and public company experience an asset.
