Job Description
AECOM is in need of a Project Controls Analyst to work with our client TTC on some of their high-profile public Transit projects.
The job incumbent will be offered a regular, full-time position with AECOM and work on secondment to TTC.
Candidate will report for work at the TTC office in downtown Toronto a few times a week for the length of the secondment. After the secondment is compete, the employee will return to AECOM to be re-assigned to another project. The home office for the employee at that time can be either the AECOM Markham or Pickering offices (with work from home options available also.)

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

In order to be considered for this position, candidates must possess, at a minimum:

  • University degree in Engineering, Finance or Economics with applicable further development in Project Management would be preferred.
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in project controls required.

Demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education may be considered.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

  • Up to 5 (five) years of experience in project controls preferred.
  • Infrastructure or Industrial construction experience preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills: Financial Analysis, Cost Control, EV Progress Measurement, Change Management.
  • Strong computer skills: Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerBI, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook)

Responsibilities:

  • Reviewing the project capital cost estimate, scope of work; assigning appropriate project cost codes.
  • Overseeing, assigning and/or reviewing project cost codes to contract line items and allocating commitment amounts to project cost codes to perform commitment cost control.
  • Reviewing and understanding project risk contingencies/allowances; calculating drawdown amounts and reviewing/calculating project escalation cost.
  • Working with the Project Scheduler to calculate project time phased cost data for the development of expenditure curves.
  • Reviewing and analyzing project expenditures/time machines, commitments, and invoicing data.
  • Ensuring accuracy of all costs (baseline, forecast, commitment and incurred) are being captured, verified, and reported.
  • Preparing project cost variance reports; performing project cost data analysis to find abnormalities between baseline, forecast, commitment, incurred and actual cost;
  • Identifying leading indicators/trends for accurate forecasting.
  • Supporting capital project cost benchmarking and analytics.
  • Preparing graphs, diagrams, and other exhibits to illustrate cost status and forecast requirements for project team.
  • Be involved in review sessions on project status with project management and/or client and highlight adverse cost variances for corrective actions.
  • Assist in the development of all reports set forth in the client business requirements as well as indicated in the corporate reporting procedures.
  • Review weekly coordination of data. (Cost/Schedule/Trends/Progress)
  • Ensure you are doing all Project Controls activities in accordance with set Project Procedures and Job Instructions. Includes preparation of cost reports, cash flow and variance analysis
  • Review and provide feedback on miscellaneous project reports.
  • Provide design and construction teams with forward looking mitigation plans and data.
  • Knowledgeable of planning and scheduling concepts and principles including effects on financial performance.
  • Familiar with data sources and supports basic schedule development for cost control and progress measurement.
  • Supports analysis of cost and schedule, identifies and investigates project cost variances.
  • Collects and updates data and updates and produces scheduling reports.
  • Assists in the development and maintenance of WBS and support activities to implement applicable coding. Supports basic schedule development.
  • Supports gathering and assembling data for cost and schedule updating.
  • Supports measurement of project schedule progress and gathers and assembles data for schedule and network updating related to cost control.
  • Familiar with engineering work flows and basis construction methodology.
  • Understands CPM scheduling concepts and principles and able to develop basic engineering, procurement and construction logic.
  • Understands concepts and principles of scope control and change management and earned value methodology.
  • Works with the company financial and cornerstone systems and processes.
  • Applies financial terminology, measures, financial data analysis concepts and principles in assignments.
  • Recognizes processes/project actions that may lead to project financial impact.
  • Develops and maintains WBS for small projects.
  • Assists in the use of drawings and specifications in the establishment of project baseline data.
  • Begins basic analysis of cost and schedule variances.
  • Develops knowledge of accounting principles.
  • Assists in assembling data for trending and forecasting.
  • Understands progress/performance data and associated concepts and principles. Participates in the collection of progress data and review of performance trends.
  • Familiar with earned value, scope control and change management concepts, principles and methodologies.
  • Collects data and produces an initial analysis on manpower, labor hour, and labor cost requirements versus budget limitations.
  • Collects and analyzes data for tracking actual cost to funding limitations.
  • Provides support to tracking purchase order and subcontract commitments and expenditures.
  • Familiar with the concepts and principles of project revenue and cost.
  • Exposure to basic scheduling and cost baseline fundamentals, concepts and principles.
  • Introduced to performance management and cost/schedule integration concepts and principles.
  • Develops knowledge of scope control and change management.
  • Supports project reporting process as required.
  • May participate in project cost review meetings.
  • Coordinate with and respond to queries from internal and external clients
  • Attend team meetings to provide assistance in resolving issues, review progress reports and ensure assignment of new tasks.
  • Analyze and provide input to technical and performance criteria on Project Controls systems to the Project Controls Functional leadership.
  • Works with the company financial and cornerstone systems and processes.
  • Applies financial terminology, measures, financial data analysis concepts and principles in assignments.
