Description:
The Engineering Manager for Electrical Engineering will play a pivotal role in shaping our organization’s future. Leading a team of electrical engineers, they will provide strategic guidance to ensure the seamless design, development, and construction of vessels for the United States Navy and U.S. Coast Guard. Responsibilities include overseeing engineers, formulating organizational strategies for employee engagement and skills development, ensuring technical compliance of multiple projects, and holding employee performance reviews.
REPORTS TO: Chief Department Engineer
SUPERVISES: Engineer III, Engineer II, Engineer I, Designers and Draftspersons
QUALIFICATIONS / KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCE:
- General:
- Minimum 8 plus years of design and/or construction experience
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Understanding of scheduling and an ability to adhere to strict deadlines
- Experienced in interacting with Production, multiple design teams from several companies, customer representatives and equipment manufacturers
- Computer literate and familiar with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office products
- Thorough knowledge of ship and propulsion systems
- Strong working knowledge of Maritime Regulatory Authorities (i.e. ABS, DNV, GL, NAVSEA, MIL, USCG, IMO, etc.)
- US Citizenship
- Electrical/Controls Engineer:
- Successful completion of a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent engineering degree or minimum 15 years of equivalent marine design experience
- Thorough knowledge of power distribution and lighting systems
- Thorough knowledge of automation, control and communication systems
- Strong working knowledge of IEEE and NEC
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the development and implementation of organizational strategies to drive employee engagement, critical skills development, employee performance management, hiring, separations, retention of talent, training, employee recognition, and mentoring/career development.
- Ensures engineers working projects are meeting deadlines, producing quality work, and adhering to all regulatory and contractual requirements.
- Responsible for preparing, overseeing and assigning design calculations and drawing development to support Program Goals
- Responsible for quality of work that comes out of the department
- Administers performance evaluations, provides regular feedback, and coaches engineers.
