Description:
Role and Scope of Position:
Plans, schedules, and performs engineering assignments related to the development of capital improvement projects designed to reduce, minimize or eliminate risk to the natural gas distribution system,. Analyzes, identifies and recommends non-pipe alternatives (NPAs)for specific projects and needs of the system.. Supports values and commitment to Eversource’s mission, strategy and values.
TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILL/EDUCATION/LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
Technical Knowledge/Skill:
- Thorough knowledge of distribution construction and maintenance work practices and procedures.
- Knowledge of applicable governmental codes and regulations
- Working knowledge of environmental requirements affecting related activities
- Familiarity with MS computer operations
- Some exposure to gaseous atmospheres, construction site hazards, and hazards on customer’s property
Education:
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Engineering Technology or related discipline
Experience:
- Minimum of five (5) years of related engineering experience
- Gas experience is a plus
Responsibilities:
- Analyzes projects in the capital plan and long range forecast for potential non-pipe alternatives, including electrification, geothermal networks, targeted decommissioning of the system and other non-emitting technologies.
- Develops criteria to assess capital projects for NPAs including safety, system impact and project costs.
- Determines viability of NPAs and documents and reports findings.
- Participates in MA Department of Public Utilities Regulatory proceedings as required.
- Analyzes leak and distribution system performance data to conduct risk assessment and prioritize distribution facilities for replacement.
- Develops annual pipe replacement program to meet regulatory filing requirements including project scope budget estimates and project authorization documentation.
- Develops annual capital budget and 5 -year long range forecast for pipe replacement program.
- Supports Distribution Integrity Management Program (DIMP) annual development and implementation including threat identification and risk assessment, development of risk mitigation plans, performance measure and annual reports.
- Monitors project progress and recommends schedule changes, cost and resource adjustments required to meet company objectives
- Ensures project work is conducted in a manner consistent with the Company’s safety and procurement policies and programs
- May provide direction to junior staff and review work
