ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Nuclear Power Programmes is one of the newest Business Units within Jacobs and has been formed with the vision to support positive change and help shape the future of Nuclear Power.
Operational throughout the UK and across continental Europe, we are seeking to expand our team on a variety of nuclear projects, which range in technologies and that find themselves at different stages of their development. To do this, we are seeking to continuously employ talented individuals to join our diverse team that are excited about nuclear projects and are committed to Net Zero, and Energy Security.
Jacobs are recruiting a Project Engineer to be part of the Engineering & Technical function within the Civil Works Programme on the Sizewell C Project and report to the Design Manager. You will work under the direction of either the Design Manager, therefore focussing on technical aspects; or the Engineering & Technical Project Manager focussing on cost and schedule aspects. Key responsibilities will be:

When supporting a Design Manager -

  • Definition or validation the SZC Technical Requirements and Specification, including engagement with SZC Design Authority
  • Management of technical Open Points and Design Changes This includes supporting progression through the technical governance processes including Replication Principles, Technical Direction Forum (TDF), No Change Committee (NCC) and Non-Permanent Works Change Committee (NPWCC)
  • Design Technical Assurance for the end-to-end design and ensuring SZC acceptance can be provided, including reviews and approvals as defined by the surveillance plans
  • Risk management through Risk Management Processes
  • Support the Design Manager in technical input for Early Warnings, Compensation Events, Technical Queries, General Communications etc from L3 Design Supply Chain, including engagement with relevant SZC and RD technical stakeholders
  • Co-ordination on technical interfaces with other parties, for example Site Establishment and Off-Site Infrastructure; NI Programme; CIBOP Programme; and Sizewell B
  • Compliance with SZC Engineering and Design processes, e,g, Design Management Plans, to deliver the whole lifecycle of the Design from Technical Requirement capture to EDR

When Supporting the Engineering & Technical Project Manager -

  • Support the Engineering & Technical Project Manager in technical input for Early Warnings, Compensation Events, Technical Queries, General Communications etc from L3 Design Supply Chain, including engagement with relevant SZC and RD technical stakeholders
  • Updates to the schedule of the Engineering & Technical scope in their specific scope area, working with the Engineering & Technical schedulers
  • Support the Engineering & Technical Project Manager in the management of [L3] Design Supply Chain Contracts
  • Co-ordinate with Civil Works Alliance and the other programmes (NI, CIBOP, SEOI) as directed by the Engineering & Technical Project Manager
  • Technical assistance to the SZC procurement teams and SZC commercial teams for their defined scope area
  • Reporting on delivery in accordance with SZC Project Reporting requirements and cadence

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Degree educated in a related Engineering Discipline
  • Knowledge of heavy civil engineering structures, including reinforced concrete and structural steel, and familiarity with current design standards and working practices (e.g. British Standards)
  • Understanding and experience in external works, including drainage, utilities, paved and unpaved surfaces, earthworks, access and accessibility, construction logistics and familiarity with current UK design standards
  • A desire to provide, technical assistance and collaboration within a technically orientated delivery team
  • Experience of working with focused technical teams including technical direction of suppliers
  • Experience of working in project teams
  • Ability to communicate and engage effectively at within the project team and if required across a range of levels: Management Team, SZC stakeholders, design delivery teams, Design Authority and Regulators
