Your new team
This position sits in our Chivas Brothers business. At Chivas Brothers, our 1,600-strong team across 27 sites is committed to upholding the heritage of Scotch and ensuring its sustainable future, as well as opening it up to new audiences across the globe.
The scope of Operations stretches from Procurement through conversion (distillation and maturation) and manufacturing (or bottling) to all the downstream Supply Chain activities until the final product is delivered. In addition, Operations play a very active role in Innovation, Talent Development and Operational Risk Management.
The Manufacturing Engineering department provides innovative solutions to Process, Re-Engineering and Continuous Improvement projects or issues with Capital Projects team being responsible for delivery of Major and Sundry Capital Projects including investigation, solution, design, estimation, implementation, installation, and commissioning throughout Manufacturing.
Your unique contribution
The Project Engineer will deliver projects on time and in budget in line with stakeholder requirements and support the delivery of the strategic vision and roadmap.
You will have five main areas of responsibility:
Project Definition & Management – to capture requirements and scope definition for a varied range of site capital projects values ranging from £50k to £5m including preparing engineering estimates to support business case decision making. You will manage cross functional teams to execute CAPEX projects across all functions assuming responsibility for all aspects of project delivery throughout the project lifecycle including; business case development, optioneering, engineering design, procurement, construction, commissioning and handover and take responsibility for budget, timescale, scope and HSE compliance to ensure projects are delivered to meet business needs and that plant and equipment outages are in line with maintaining sustained customer service
Design Management – to manage the engineering design process to ensure that all design packages are fully integrated and comply with relevant codes, standards, and legislation. You will provide technical expertise to correctly specify and cost relevant elements for Capital Expenditure Projects including Electrical/PLC systems, Bottling/Packaging equipment, Mechanical systems or Process plant and prepare and maintain configuration of drawings, schedules, and documentation for new or existing assets to ensure accurate record keeping and integration with the Asset and Drawing Management Systems.
Construction/Installation/Commissioning – to manage the construction phase in line with regulations and company procedures and produce detailed commissioning plans, taking responsibility for the completion of all commissioning activities and snag resolution. You will also plan and attend key equipment supplier visits including reference visits, Pre-delivery inspections and Factory Acceptance Tests.
Continuous Improvement – to identify improvements to manufacturing processes, equipment performance and safety and develop new systems or methods of working to improve project delivery processes. You will also conduct post project appraisals and lessons learned activities.
Safety – to proactively manage safety to company, group and national standards. You will manage multi-disciplined teams and employed contractors, including health, safety, and environmental implications whilst on site and conduct safety tours and audits, as necessary.
Who you’ll be working with
Internally, you will collaborate with the wider Engineering team as well as other areas of Manufacturing, including Continuous Improvement, Supply Chain, Bottling, Quality, Health and Safety and New Product Development as well as other functions such as Finance.
Externally, you will collaborate with contractors, suppliers, and vendors to ensure delivery of services to the highest standard.
Your blend of talent

This position could be right for you if you:

  • Have a degree in Mechanical or Process/Chemical Engineering or another relevant subject with experience in a similar role with installation of bottling and/or packaging equipment or installation of Whisky or Chemical process installations.
  • Are a Chartered Engineer or working towards Chartership.
  • Have experience of managing Design, Installation and Commissioning of process plant installations.
  • Know, understand, and can apply project management procedures and are able to use CAD, Word, Excel, MS Project, and other appropriate software packages.
  • Can provide leadership and drive in managing change when implementing new systems to ensure completion on time, within budget and to the right quality.
  • Hold a full UK driving license.
