PROJECT ENGINEER/PROJECT MANAGER

This Vancouver office location specializes in small to mid-sized projects for clients across Canada. The types of clients we work for include:

POSITION SUMMARY

Project Engineers will work on one or multiple assigned projects and client accounts to support the execution of projects, manage the scope, budget, and schedule.
When assigned to a client portfolio, this individual will be a key resource in driving the sector initiative within the Tetra Tech ICE business unit. This requires developing connections across the ICE business unit and understanding what services we can offer and the clients we serve.

CLIENT ACCOUNT FOCUS

  • Building on established relationships with key clients, primarily in oil sands, processing/ refineries, petrochemical and midstream sectors
  • Building client relationships by meeting or exceeding expectations on quality, schedule, budget, and fit-for-purpose solutions
  • Coordinating client meetings involving team members as appropriate
  • Looking for opportunities to communicate as appropriate outside of project work
  • Managing a Client’s expectations and discussing the technical/financial aspects in a clear manner with a thorough understanding of the Client’s needs
  • Understanding the underlying aims of a client in undertaking a project. Trying to identify next steps or other projects that would help achieve these aims. Communicating this to the Client and Tetra Tech management
  • Understanding client procedures and sharing best practices with the internal team

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

  • Project Engineers: 10 to 15 years of related experience in oil and gas, particularly refinery/processing facility capital/MOC/maintenance projects or pipelines/pipeline facilities
  • Project Managers: 10+ years of related experience in oil and gas, particularly refinery/processing facility capital/MOC/maintenance projects or pipelines/pipeline facilities
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a project engineering (4 years for project managers) role
  • Brownfield project experience will be helpful.
  • Experience creating and maintaining schedules (Projects or Primavera) is an asset
  • Experience preparing engineering hour estimates is required
  • Must have a strong technical background in either chemical, mechanical, piping, civil, or electrical engineering. May be asked to complete technical reviews of documents
  • Experience with pump stations, compressor stations, or terminals is considered an asset
  • Experience in material procurement process and subconsultant management will be helpful
  • Multi-discipline engineering experience within an industrial consulting engineering environment or at an owner’s facility will be an asset
  • Previous work with Suncor, Syncrude, CNRL, or Parkland processing facilities is an asset
  • Organizational skills to effectively handle multiple small projects concurrently in a team environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive client and project team relationships
  • Working knowledge of standards that may include API/ASME/CSA
  • Strong attention to detail

EDUCATION

  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registered in BC or Alberta is preferred

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION / REQUIREMENTS

  • A requirement of working for Tetra Tech is that you are at least 18 years of age and legally entitled to work in Canada. A copy of a valid work permit may be required.
  • If you are considered for the position, clearance on all applicable background checks (which may include criminal, identity, educational, and/or credit) and professional reference checks is required. Some Tetra Tech positions require an enhanced level of background assessment, which is dictated by law. These positions require advanced criminal record checks that must also be conducted from time to time after commencement of employment.
  • To meet the physical demands required of some positions, candidates must be in good physical condition and willing to work in all weather conditions.
  • Periodic travel within Canada to client sites and regional Tetra Tech offices will be required (1-3 days per visit, up to approximately 10 visits per year)
  • Clearance on pre-placement medical and drug and alcohol testing and background checks may be required for our client worksites
  • Current Working Environment: Hybrid Working Arrangement (In office & work from home)
    The salary range for this position is $120,000 to $140,000. Please note that Tetra Tech considers various factors in determining pay, including but not limited to: education, relevant and demonstrated work experience in the role, skills, geographic location, qualifications, certifications, and other competencies relevant to the needs of the business.
