DESCRIPTION

STURDEE ENERGY is an African Independent Power Producer that develops, finances, owns and operates renewable energy power projects across Africa with both utility and C&I offtake. They have a strong track record of 600MW in delivered projects and have secured solar and wind projects of over 200MW that will commence construction this year. Sturdee Energy is offering a unique opportunity for a Project Engineer to join their technical team that is responsible for the construction and operations of a portfolio of renewable energy projects across South Africa, Botswana, eSwatini and Namibia.
The position will require an energetic person that can work in a multi-disciplinary role and perform various engineering tasks related to development and construction of renewable energy assets. The role is ideal for an electrical or mechanical engineer with utility scale solar and/or wind experience who is ready to be a “hands on” and spend a large part of their time on site making sure projects are constructed and operated to the highest standards.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • BSc Engineering (Elec/Mech) or BTech Engineering (Elec/Mech)

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • 2+ years’ experience in delivery of utility scale solar PV projects, wind project experience advantageous.
  • On site solar and wind experience during construction and operations
  • Familiarity with applicable international and RSA codes, standards, and regulations.
  • Experience in utility scale solar PV designs, construction monitoring, quality control, witnessing tests, and commissioning.
  • Competent using GIS and energy yield assessment software i.e. Global Mapper, PVsyst, etc.
  • ECSA registration as a Candidate

SKILLS

  • Strong English reading and writing skills.
  • Ability to manage several projects with time-sensitive project deliverables simultaneously.
  • Excited to travel, particularly to the sites in South Africa and throughout Africa.
  • Proven ability to perform in a highly functioning team.
  • A valid Driver’s licence

Responsibilities:

  • Interface with development team during development, tender and financial close process on the projects’ technical aspects.
  • Coordinate with external engineering firms, subcontractors, and internal disciplines (technical, legal, and environmental) to ensure timely, cost-effective, and high-quality project completion.
  • Assist the technical team in project and technical management during construction and operations ensuring compliance with internal quality standards and contractual requirements.
  • Review EPC and subcontractors’ designs to verify compliance with project requirements and contractual commitments.
  • Owner’s interface undertaking regular site visits and inspections through-out site identification, development, construction, and operations.
  • Prepare monthly reports for internal & external stakeholders covering project progress, status, and performance.
  • Assist with and/or conduct any other necessary aspects of a project that fall within the scope of the technical team.
