Description:

Job Summary
The Project Engineer provides leadership and organization to Local Engineering project execution teams. The Project Engineer ensures the team has clear definition of the project goals and objectives, supports the team in removing roadblocks and barriers, and is responsible to support the team in meeting the project’s objectives in the defined timelines.
Project Engineer is a key project team member, and the key communicator between the Local Engineering and Design team, the client stakeholders, and other 3rd parties such as vendors, sub-contractors, etc.

Education & Qualifications

  • Graduate of a recognized university with a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Electrical Engineering discipline, or equivalent
  • Member-in-Training or Professional Engineering designation with APEGA, or eligible for registration
  • Preference will be given to a candidate with 4-10 years of progressive engineering leadership and project engineering/management experience, however team fit is most important
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite programs used to create reports and documents including MS Project
  • Prior EPCM work experience is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Represent Local Engineering as the key interface between the client and the Local engineering and design team
  • Execute project engineering activities within a scope of work that includes everything from Scoping & FEED Studies to Detailed Design, procurement support, construction support and commissioning, depending on the needs of the client/project
  • Manage team technical excellence, budget, schedule, and contractual requirements
  • In collaboration with the Project Delivery Manager, develop and execute Project and/or Program Execution Plans
  • Facilitate project meetings including preparing meeting agendas and sending out meeting minutes/notes/actions
  • Maintain Project Logs, documenting risks, decisions, actions, assumptions, etc.
  • Initiate conversations with team to understand scope changes/creep, and manage via preparation and obtaining client approval of Trends/PCNs
  • Actively communicate with project team members to ensure the project scope is clear, and changes are well documented and communicated to all appropriate team members
  • Actively engage directly with clients to understand their requirements and expectations and deliver quality solutions.
  • Communicate project resource needs the Local Discipline Leads to ensure staffing is in place to successfully execute project work
  • Prepare and issue project memos, reports, documents, invoices, etc.
  • Prepare and issue regular project status reports to clients
  • Present information to clients to support decisions and document decision outcomes
  • Prepare and gain approval of Project Decision Records as required
  • Manage project budgets ensuring work is completed according to the defined contractual scope and execution strategy
  • Support clients at various project phases including start up, commissioning and close out
  • Maintain a close understanding of the project’s technical details and project challenges
  • Review and approve technical deliverables
  • Support business development activities such as liaising with clients as a representative of Local and identifying, developing, and maintaining professional connections to enhance and maintain business for the company
  • Demonstrate commitment to safety, and lead by example
  • Travel to the field for project scoping, verification, construction support and meeting with clients as needed

Position Conditions

  • Hours of work per week may vary depending on available work and skillset of individual, but the intention is that this is a full-time position.
  • Salary is commensurate with APEGA salary scale based on relevant experience.
  • Job is typically performed in an office environment.
  • Site travel may be required depending on the project.
