Responsibilities:
THE ROLE:
The Project Leader Decarbonisation will report directly to the Senior Programme Leader (Decarbonisation), who in turn reports to the Head of Programme Management Office. These are responsible roles which include management of experienced external consultants together with the ability to create relationships at the most senior level within the University. The role will encompass a wide sphere of influence over staff, strategic decisions around investment and asset and property development and delivery as well as financial understanding and tactical control and intervention in the delivery of capital projects whose individual value can reach £300m.
The University of Cambridge has the largest estate in Higher Education with an existing 784,000m2 built space within 345 teaching, research and operational buildings. The operational estate is valued at £3.7 billion (Insurance Replacement Cost) and comprises a diverse range from Grade 1 Listed buildings to state-of-the-art laboratories.
Estates Division (ED) is responsible for high-level strategic planning, the delivery of major and minor construction programmes and maintenance of the estate as well as a wide range of University-wide services.
KEY MANAGERIAL ELEMENTS OF THE ROLE INCLUDE
Setting and overseeing strategy (with support from line manager) for management for multiple projects and their safe delivery through the project life cycle.
Manages multiple teams across diverse projects types. This will include University staff and external consultants at a senior level.
Creates and manages a policy and system for management of design teams in conjunction with the Project Delivery Manual processes. All projects are different, and the role holder will have to create a Project Execution Plan and appropriate management regime to suit each project.
Set standards for projects in conjunction with Project Boards and University process.
The role holder shall be expected to operate at a high level of liaison and networking with senior people both within and outside the University and to present as a professional and commanding representative of the University.
