Description:

Commercial refurbishment and fit out head contractor looking for the next ambitious Assistant Project Manager/Project Manager to deliver commercial fit outs, heavy refurbishments and new build extensions to existing buildings. They specialise in office fit-outs, education and hospitality projects (hotels, clubs and pubs) including projects both in Sydney metro and regional work in NSW. If you are allocated to a regional project you would only be expected to travel one day a week using your company car to the site, and your travel expenses would be fully covered including fuel and tolls.

The Company:

  • The builder has been established over 25 years and has a well earned reputation for delivering high quality projects through their client-focused attitude.
  • They offer tailored service to their clients and have a professional and agile culture, with a close-knit family-feel team and an impressive portfolio of existing clients that you will have the opportunity to work with, on commercial projects up to $15m in value.
  • Hours of work are 7.30am-4.30pm or 8am-5pm - no Saturdays (unless essential, if your project has something urgent).
  • The company operates under an ISO accredited management system for H&S, Environmental and Quality, ensuring consistency and continual improvement of operations.

The Role:

  • They are looking to employ another PM for their team that is ambitious and wants to learn. Their current PM’s have been with the company for a long time (10 years+), and are provided with a company car which is included in the package as some of their projects are located regionally, which will be offered to you too.
  • Involved early on in the delivery process, you will be responsible for client interaction whilst working closely with your team to meet the clients expectations.
  • You will be responsible for monitoring project financials and drive programmes to ensure that projects are completed to clients satisfaction.
  • Depending on the size of your projects, you’ll be responsible for 1-2 projects simultaneously at various stages of the program
  • You will manage a team and coordinate works with your Site Manager on site, to ensure timely project delivery and a quality product is produced.
  • You’ll be maintaining and building new client relationships to ensure repeat business, reporting to the Directors and overseeing a Contract Administrator
  • You must be ambitious and take an active interest in learning, doing research if you don’t know something and not expecting answers handed to you - i.e - come to your manager with a potential solution rather than just a problem, so you can overcome it together
  • Using Procore, MS Projects and Muli.

What you’ll need:

  • Ideally 2 years+ experience as a Project Manager, or currently working as a Project Engineer/Senior Contract Administrator for a reputable Australian business and looking to take a step up to Project Manager position.
  • Tertiary qualification in Building, Construction or Engineering with Contract Administration background
  • Ideally experience working on refurbishment projects $5m+, preferably in the commercial refurbishment/new build sector
  • Superior ability to plan, manage and deliver projects to a high standard
  • Transferable negotiation and decision-making abilities
  • Provide good technical knowledge and commercial awareness to your project team
  • Ability to work well with a variety of stakeholders
  • Proven Management experience with excellent technical refurbishment knowledge
  • Extensive knowledge in reading and interpreting technical drawings and building permits
  • Strong communication skills and ability to build rapport quickly
  • The company are looking for someone specifically with head contractor experience, so if you have been working for a subcontractor or client side, unfortunately you will not be a good fit for this position.

Culture & Benefits:

  • In return you have the opportunity to work for a business with a fantastic team culture, where the Directors are hands-on and take the time to get to know their team on a personal level to support you in your career growth.
  • You will have a fully expenses-paid company car included in your package including tolls and fuel
  • The existing team have excellent tenure with the company, so they want to invest in your career and provide excellent training and support
  • Lunch is provided while you are working in their office 5 days a week, and the team enjoy getting together for weekly catch ups after work and would like you to feel part of the team if you want to join them in team social events.
