The Ministry
The Ministry of Education administers the system of publicly funded elementary and secondary school education in Ontario, in accordance with the directions set by the provincial government. The ministry also provides education services to students at schools for the blind, the deaf and the deafblind. The Minister of Education, through the ministry, issues curricula; sets requirements for student diplomas and certificates; and provides funding to school boards for academic instruction and for building and maintaining schools. The minister may also set policy for student assessment, which is then carried out by the Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO). The EQAO gives the minister advice on assessment policy, and issues reports on the results of its assessments.

The Branch
The Financial Analysis and Accountability Branch (FAAB) are responsible for providing advice and assistance on financial matters related to school boards. Key functions include: - Monitoring the financial health of Ontario’s school boards; - Financial policy development and implementation of accounting policy changes; - Enrolment audits, the development of audit tools, and the framework for Audit Committees and regional internal audit teams; - Reporting and accountability requirements associated with administering grants to school boards; and, - The consolidation of school board financial results into the province’s Budget and Public Accounts

FINANCIAL KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERTISE:
- You have knowledge of the theory and practice of economic and financial analysis and statistical methodologies to lead analysis, evaluation, assessment, interpretation and reporting of school board financial data

- You have excellent verbal and written communication skills to communicate complex financial information clearly and concisely
- You have consultation and advisory skills to provide expert advice and guidance to senior management
- You have negotiation and relationship management skills to build and maintain partnerships with stakeholders, who often hold differing opinions/mandates
- You can work collaboratively with senior management, staff, and various stakeholders
PROJECT MANAGEMENT AND LEADERSHIP SKILLS:
- You have project management skills and demonstrated ability to plan and lead financial/business analysis projects
- You can lead a team of professionals and provide guidance, direction and support to project team members
Analytical and Strategic Thinking Skills
- You have experience leading in-depth analysis of financial issues such as identifying information requirements and preparation of impact assessment, leading the design and development of business processes, systems and procedures
- You can think strategically and creatively to develop new solutions in the absence of established precedent
Computer Skills
- You have experience using systems, software and network-based programs to prepare various reports, presentations, correspondence and briefing materials
