JOB DESCRIPTION

The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is a state owned organisation. We work worldwide in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development. GIZ International Services (InS) is an integral division of GIZ. We offer the experience, the regional and technical know-how of GIZ in the global market and provide international clients with expertise in terms of economic and result-oriented services.
GIZ International Services is preparing for a UNOPS tender in Southeast Asia.
The Southeast Asia Regional Program on Combating Marine Plastics (SEA-MaP Regional Project) is a five-year program financed by the World Bank and partly managed by UNOPS. Its objective is to aid the Member States (AMS) of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in combating marine plastic pollution and mitigating its negative impacts.
The Innovation and Investment Platform is a flagship component of SEA MaP and will provide a fully serviced accelerator and investment matchmaking service supporting startups and their partners to achieve scale and secure investment. (To qualify to receive support, startups must apply in partnership with a possible investor or business partner). The platform will be set up with a view to ensuring it’s continuity as a calatyst for up- and mid-stream innovation addressing marine plastic pollution after the SEA MaP project ends.
GIZ is bidding for the contract to implement this platform and, in that context, is looking for a dynamic Team Lead to play a pivotal role in driving forward innovative solutions in the region. This will be a leadership role with responsibility of supervising a team of advisors.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:

  • At least a Master’s degree or equivalent technical qualification in a relevant field, such as environmental management, business administration, or computer engineering, or related fields accompanied by a minimum of 10 years of professional experience in any of these domains.
  • Strong leadership qualities, effective communication skills, and exceptional interpersonal abilities to effectively engage with diverse stakeholders.
  • Fluency in English is imperative; proficiency in an ASEAN language would be advantageous.

GENERAL PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of five years of experience working within the ASEAN region, showcasing a robust comprehension of regional dynamics and challenges.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in project management, encompassing the planning, execution, monitoring, and assessment of intricate projects.
  • Proven track record in convening multi-stakeholder groups and fostering collaboration among diverse stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience in spearheading communication initiatives in cross-cultural settings, with a particular emphasis on advancing sustainability objectives.
  • Specific Professional Experience:
  • Proven track record in supporting early-stage businesses and startups to scale their products, improve their business plans and secure investment.
  • Managing a comprehensive platform
  • Experience working in the fields of solid waste management, up- and mid-stream plastic waste management, and, especially, addressing marine plastic pollution, would be a significant advantage.
  • Experience working with – and networks among – relevant ASEAN institutions, sectoral bodies, centres etc. would be a significant advantage.

Responsibilities:

Tasks may include (but will not be limited to):

Overall responsibility for implementation of the contract, including managing technical and financial performance, such as ensuring that the project achieves quality deliverables in a timely manner, within contractual terms, and on budget.

  • Lead a dynamic and international, multifunctional team of staff, consultants and sub-contractors, including providing a clear vision and division of roles, managing personnel professionally and with dignity, and creating an effective and inclusive working environment.
  • Coordinate with project stakeholders to ensure project success.
  • Serve as the senior point of contact for stakeholders (including ASEAN counterparts, innovators and investors, fostering collaboration and partnerships, and extending project networks. Including by empowering other team members.
  • Overseeing all other project activities, including development of the finance marketplace, the technical assistance facility and the communications aspect. Ensure that communications and outreach is mainstreamed throughout all the project areas.
  • Identify and address capacity-building needs among project team members and stakeholders.
  • Prepare and submit progress reports and other project documentation as required by donors and stakeholders.
