WHAT QUALIFICATIONS DO YOU BRING?

  • Completion of a university degree in a related discipline, combined with training and experience applicable to the position.
  • Extensive experience in the areas of general project management and engineering management of heavy construction and/or large multi-discipline projects.
  • Previous experience working within alternate or collaborative project delivery models, such as Progressive Design-Build, Alliance, or Construction Management would be an asset, as would experience delivering capital infrastructure improvements in an operating environment.
  • Registration as a licensed Professional Engineer or a similar professional designation in the Province of Ontario.
  • PMP certification would be an asset.
  • A valid Province of Ontario Class G driver’s licence.
  • Strong understanding of engineering and construction principles, methods and practices combined with solid, applied knowledge of project management concepts and practices.
  • Knowledge of contract law, contract administration and inspection, and pertinent Acts and Regulations (Construction Act, Occupational Health & Safety Act, etc.).
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and lead a group of professionals, work with multi-discipline teams and various stakeholders, deal with complex issues and maintain effective working relationships. Sound judgment; management, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills; negotiation and mediation skills; problem solving skills.
  • Must have or rapidly acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements pertaining to passengers and employees.

Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Senior Project Manager, the Project Manager will implement and manage the assigned project(s) from inception, planning, design, procurement through to completion. You will also act as the TTC’s representative to exercise and delegate authority in managing the work and controlling the delivery of the project in accordance with scope, budget, schedule, and quality assurance requirements.
You will establish overall scope, schedule and budget for various projects. Prioritize projects and frameworks to meet strategic business and governance goals. Identify external risks and implement mitigation strategies and contingency plans; ensure project schedules are developed and implemented so that deliverables are provided in a timely and cost effective manner to all stakeholders; track, monitor and communicate performance against project requirements, quality measures, milestones and KPIs; review status reports from project teams and address issues with program or portfolio impacts as appropriate; ensure timely reporting of financial and performance results including schedule, safety, human resources, and other management issues to TTC and government officials. As a Project Manager, you will also provide leadership and guidance in recruiting, retaining and training of resources to ensure individual and team targets are achieved as well as to contribute to the ongoing success of the TTC Corporate Plan; delegate and guide work; create, maintain and constantly attempt to improve project development and implementation processes; implement procedures to ensure successful execution of projects; and define and manage stakeholder expectations and problem resolution.
You will manage the capital budget submission for the assigned project(s); supervise and coordinate the activities of project team members with other TTC Departments and external stakeholders involved in the design, review, tender, award and construction processes; manage design assignments by monitoring progress and performance against established terms of reference; manage the preparation of construction contract documents and provide general management of construction work; and mediate and negotiate with stakeholders to successfully resolve complex construction claims. Ensure the prompt development of strategies to address unresolved claims.
As a Project Manager, you will also prepare and participate in public consultations for the assigned project(s); ensure adherence to quality, safety, and environmental requirements, as well as construction budget and overall construction schedule; ensure compliance to procedures and practices with the proper supervision, inspection and administration of the work; and as a resource to provide consultation, direction, advice and guidance regarding construction site management issues and/or complex construction problems/issues in a timely and accurate manner.
