Your primary responsibility will be to ensure the safety and protection of the artwork, the building, and its occupants. You will be committed to providing a high degree of security, in a front-of-house function.
If you are dedicated to delivering the highest levels of service which consistently demonstrates Securitas’ core values of Integrity, Vigilance and Helpfulness then we would love to hear from you.
- SIA is essential
- Working an average of 36 hours per week
Responsibilities:
- The primary duty of the Protective Services Officer (PSO) is invigilation of the Gallery public spaces – taking a proactive and reactive approach to any incidents or near-misses which may impact on the safety and protection of the artwork, building and its occupants.
- Ensure that visitors, contractors, and staff members enjoy the collection in a safe manner - ensure all reportable incidents are escalated appropriately, and to challenge and de-escalate where appropriate.
- Proactively patrolling your assigned Gallery area; being vigilant in monitoring for unsafe activity and making regular visual checks of the artworks.
- Respond to alarms and incidents as per the Standard Operating Procedures and the site escalation process.
- Report suspicious behaviour and activity to management and/or the Control Room as appropriate. PSOs must be mindful of the UK’s Threat Level and Action Counters Terrorism.
- PSOs must have an excellent standard of English speaking, to verbally communicate effectively with Gallery visitors and colleagues.
- Engage with visitors as an Ambassador of the Gallery – be committed to having a good knowledge of the permanent collection, temporary exhibitions/displays and events, including Gallery Membership.
- Ensure all visitor queries are responded to with an ‘above and beyond’ approach to ensure a successful and positive visit – from arrival to departure.
- All officers must be flexible and adhere to any reasonable instruction from a manager to aid the overall operational service delivery.
- Record and report all faults, health and safety hazards and unsafe working practices to supervisor/manager.
- Employees should always be mindful about confidentiality and never discuss the Securitas operation at the National Gallery with any member of the public or non-Securitas staff members. All queries from the press should be directed to the Press department.
