How you make a difference:
The Psychiatric Technician is responsible for delivering direct care services to patients with mental health and intellectual developmental disabilities, working closely with licensed nursing personnel or their designee. They ensure a safe and secure environment for patients in crisis situations while providing valuable support to Nursing and Clinical Treatment teams. Additionally, the Psychiatric Technician may perform delegated nursing tasks, following supervision from licensed nursing personnel during task execution.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create a physically and emotionally safe environment through regular rounds and patient/property searches to facilitate patient focus on managing their illnesses and disabilities for healing promotion.
  • Assist patients with basic care tasks like eating, bathing, dressing, and hygiene, while closely observing their progress for identifying additional services or treatment adjustments.
  • Offer behavioral emergency aid, including patient restraint following approved agency curriculum and administering basic first aid when necessary; promptly report homicidal or suicidal behaviors.
  • Monitor and document the behavior of patients in seclusion or on precautions.
  • Perform delegated duties, such as vital sign monitoring and specimen collection, under the supervision of nursing personnel or as assigned by a physician; practice appropriate use of Standard Precautions to prevent infection spread, and undertake any other assigned duties.

Qualifications & Requirements:

Education

  • High school and specialized training for licensing/certification(s)

Experience

  • Experience facilitating groups with Mental Health patients
  • One year of experience; within a correctional/detention facility preferred.
