BASIC REQUIREMENTS FOR PSYCHOLOGY TECH (BEHAVIORAL HEALTH):

Specialized Experience: At least one year of specialized experience which includes in-processing patients for admission; monitoring patient treatments; and providing education. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone-no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Help

• Assist with medications and other treatments to patients, following instructions from doctors and other medical professionals.
• Process patients for admission by searching belongings for contraband, obtaining inpatient/outpatient records, preparing patient charts with proper forms, and assigning beds.
• Perform crisis stabilization for agitated, disoriented, and combative high-risk patients.
• Conduct group and individual practical counseling and provide education to patients with psychological conditions under the direct supervision of a licensed mental health professional.
