As a Public Health Advisor (Quarantine Program), you will: Assist in planning and implementing a program for preventing the importation of communicable diseases from abroad and spread of these diseases domestically. Assess the need for personnel, facilities, supplies and materials, stimulating the appropriation of fiscal support, preparing a program plan, and provide ongoing advice and assistance across organizational and jurisdictional lines to ensure consistent and effective program implementation. Monitor disease trends and consults with CDC specialists and senior public health officials to ensure that appropriate measures are taken to prevent the introduction/spread of communicable diseases by travelers, etiologic agents or vectors. Conduct active and passive surveillance of passengers, crew and cargo on public conveyances for indications of communicable diseases. Act as an advisor and instructor to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) staff regarding the physical and mental requirements for arriving aliens. In collaboration with the CDC Office of Health and Safety, perform duties related to the issuance, promulgation and monitoring of permits for importation of animals, vectors and etiologic agents.

Must be able to qualify for an official U.S. passport. Must possess a valid State government-issued driver’s license. Subject to temporary duty assignment at any location in the United States and its territories or possessions, in foreign countries, or at sea. Subject to permanent reassignment to another CDC Quarantine Station as the needs of the service warrant. Subject to shift operations, to be on-call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, independent of shift assignments. The incumbent is required to be current in his or her immunizations as per ACIP guidelines. The incumbent must undergo baseline and periodic health screening procedures such as hearing tests and PPD tests for tuberculosis exposure. This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a Secret level of investigation/clearance.
