At our Head Office based in downtown Vancouver BC, the Purchasing Manager is specialized in co-manufacturing project management and is responsible for managing key vendor relationships, negotiating prices, ensuring on-time delivery of projects, and managing the supporting team. The Purchasing Manager possesses exceptional negotiation skills, a strong understanding of supply chain management, and the ability to effectively coordinate projects across multiple manufacturing partners.

Responsibilities:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Let’s get into the detail. This role will:

  • Vendor Relationship Management:
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key vendors and co-manufacturers to ensure smooth communication and collaboration.
  • Coordinate with co-manufacturers to align production schedules and delivery timelines with organizational needs.
  • Evaluate vendor and co-manufacturer performance regularly and implement improvement strategies where necessary.
  • Price Negotiation:
  • Negotiate pricing and contractual terms with vendors and co-manufacturers to secure favorable agreements that align with the organization’s budget and quality standards.
  • Analyze market trends and conduct cost comparisons to identify opportunities for cost savings across the co-manufacturing network.
  • Implement strategies to drive down procurement costs without compromising product quality or supplier relationships.
  • Co-Manufacturing Project Coordination:
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for co-manufacturing projects, coordinating activities between internal teams and external partners to ensure project milestones are met.
  • Develop project plans, timelines, and resource allocation strategies to support successful co-manufacturing outcomes.
  • Monitor project progress, identify potential risks or delays, and implement mitigation strategies to keep projects on track.
  • Procurement Strategy Development:
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop and implement procurement strategies that support the organization’s objectives, with a focus on co-manufacturing initiatives.
  • Assess current procurement processes within the co-manufacturing network and identify areas for improvement to streamline operations and increase efficiency.
  • Stay informed about industry best practices and emerging trends in co-manufacturing to continuously enhance strategies and practices.
  • Supplier Performance Monitoring:
  • Monitor supplier and co-manufacturer performance metrics, such as on-time delivery and quality of goods, and take corrective action as needed.
  • Conduct regular audits of co-manufacturing processes to ensure compliance with contractual agreements and regulatory requirements.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to address any issues related to supplier or co-manufacturer performance and maintain high standards of quality and reliability.
  • Contract Management:
  • Manage contracts with vendors and co-manufacturers, including negotiation, renewal, and termination, to ensure compliance with legal and financial requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records of contract terms, pricing agreements, and key vendor information within the co-manufacturing network.
  • Review contract terms regularly to identify opportunities for renegotiation or optimization.
  • Team Management:
  • Lead and manage a team, providing guidance, mentorship, and support to ensure their professional growth and performance.
  • Assign tasks and projects to team members, ensuring alignment with OKRs and project timelines.
  • Onboarding and training of all organizational staff requirements including but not limited to mission, vision, values, gold standard and any other applicable

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and/or Supply Chain Management,
  • Proven experience with large CPG company in procurement, vendor management, and project coordination, with a focus on co-manufacturing.
  • Strong negotiation skills with a track record of achieving favorable pricing and terms.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Solid understanding of procurement processes, contract management, and supplier performance evaluation.
  • Experience with project management methodologies and using the Asana platform, with the ability to coordinate a high volume of projects across multiple partners
  • Proven ability to manage and lead a team effectively, including task assignment, performance evaluation, and professional development.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and procurement software (Adagio PO Module).
  • Certification in procurement, project management, or supply chain management (e.g., CSCP, CPIM, PMP) is a plus
