Responsibilities:

ABOUT THE ROLE

Reporting to the Team Manager and working closely alongside other individuals, you will be responsible for general garden maintenance across multiple sites across Ōamaru. Your duties will include planting, weeding, pruning, and vegetation control tasks - always making sure maintenance is top-notch, timely, and planned, while keeping things safe for the public, your team, and yourself. Day-to-day you will:

  • Execute tasks to create gardens meeting client specifications, including following garden plans, sourcing necessary plants and materials, and planting according to guidelines and plant needs
  • Oversee the day-to-day operational aspects of designated sites within the contract
  • Mentor and provide guidance to trainees and other Gardeners, offering support and direction for a cohesive and efficient work environment
  • Maintain open communication with the Team Manager, promptly addressing and reporting any garden or planting issues
  • Prioritise safety, compliance, and quality management in all aspects of garden-related activities

Our ideal candidate will hold a Level 4 National Certification in Horticulture, be GrowSafe certified and have at least 3 years of experience in a similar role. Other experience and skills we seek include:

  • Holding a valid, full driver’s license with manual driving capability
  • Demonstrating extensive knowledge of plant species and their maintenance requirements
  • Proficiency in accurately following and implementing gardening plans
  • Exhibiting strong interpersonal skills, capable of addressing public inquiries
  • Displaying a proactive attitude, always ready to assist others efficiently
  • A desire to become a mentor and is keen to teach and support other
