Description:

SUMMARY:

This position perform inspection of Engineering prototypes, experimental parts and samples from new and modified tooling. Performs calibration, inspection and maintenance of production or inspection gauges and equipment. Must be able to accurately establish complex set-ups of inspection equipment and parts to ensure conformance to specifications. Product and process studies, internal or supplier process or product audits, data collection and analysis documentation.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate’s degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school, and 5 years related Quality Assurance experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • General knowledge in use of standard inspection tools such as micrometers, calipers, plug and ring gauges, gauge blocks, dial indicators, surface plate, profilometer and video measuring system.
  • Familiar with basic manufacturing processes, i.e.: metal stamping and forming, machining, die casting, plastic molding, heat treat and plating, welding, and finishing; Prefer to be familiar with electronic test instruments such as volt and ohm amp meters and also be able to work with chemicals and basic laboratory equipment.
  • Must be able to read and interpret Engineering blueprints, drawings and specifications. Be familiar with the use of inspection sampling plans, and use shop math and basic trigonometry to perform equipment and sine plate set ups. Use of current computer hardware and software, including Microsoft Office programs is required.
  • Prefer experience with current Quality tools and concepts, including SPC, TQM, Lean and ISO 9000.
  • Communicate and work well with others individually and in a team setting, be a problem solver, exhibit a positive can do attitude, apply oneself to continually improve self and company processes, work without close supervision, make “on the spot” decisions, present verbal/written reports and graphical data, prioritize schedules and complete multiple priority assignments. Candidate is required to take the Quality Assurance Inspector Test to assess mathematical and critical thinking aptitude.
  • Must have basic knowledge and understanding of GD&T applications. Experience using a Romer Arm (Portable CMM) with PC-DMIS software. General knowledge in the use of standard inspection tools such as micrometers, calipers, plug and ring gauges, gauge blocks, dial indicators, surface plate, profilometer, Optical Comparator and height gauge set ups.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs inspection using dimensional, functional and visual attributes as required. In addition to the primary inspection activities noted above, will also perform inspection of Engineering prototypes, experimental parts and samples from new and modified tooling as well as inspection/identification of metals, plastics, finish, plating, heat treating/hardness, welding and spring testing.
  • Effectively communication and coordination with the lead/Supervisor and peers is a must. The individual will directly report to the QA Supervisor. All duties and responsibilities must be completed with a high level of accuracy and thoroughness.
  • May perform calibration, inspection and maintenance of production or inspection gauges and equipment as well as complex set-ups of inspection equipment and parts to ensure conformance to specifications. Other activities may include product or process studies, internal or supplier process or product audits, data collection and analysis, filing and processing of inspection documentation and records, movement of parts and paperwork to other areas, work on team projects and other duties as assigned.
  • Understands the Four Level Defect Grading System and consistently achieves the product quality goals and standards. Works closely with department supervisor, Quality Assurance/support staff and other co-workers to effectively problem solve, correct and prevent Category 1 and 2 quality defects and errors
  • Effective communication and coordination with the lead person and peers is a must. The individual will directly report to the QA Manager or Supervisor. All duties and responsibilities must be completed with a high level of accuracy and thoroughness. Assignments, instruction and direction will be given by the lead person as as well as the supervisor or manager.
