Description:

The responsibilities of this job include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Reporting all findings involving laboratory operations as directed;
  • Ensuring that test methodology and procedures are appropriate for the clinical use of test results and establishing performance criteria, including precision and accuracy standards for each test;
  • Ensuring that the laboratory is appropriately enrolled in an approved proficiency testing program;
  • Establishing a quality control program for each test performed;
  • Establishing acceptable levels of analytic performance and ensuring that these levels are maintained throughout the testing process;
  • Resolving technical problems and ensuring that remedial actions are taken, if necessary;
  • Ensuring that patient test results are not reported until all corrective actions have been taken;
  • Identifying training needs and ensuring that testing personnel receive regular and appropriate in-service training;
  • Evaluating the competency of all testing personnel. This includes completing an evaluation at 6 and 12 months in the first year of employment and yearly thereafter. Performance is reevaluated before patient testing if instrumentation or test methodology changes;
  • Providing on-site, telephone, or electronic consultation as needed;
  • Reviewing medical records for compliance with Patient First policies and procedures according to schedule;
  • Performing onsite inspections completely and accurately according to schedule;
  • Performing final review and completion of inspection report according to schedule;
  • Assisting with revisions of the inspection process and criteria;
  • Performing inspection follow-ups as directed;
  • Conducting training sessions as needed with center personnel, administrative personnel, trainers, etc.;
  • Receiving and moving ordered supplies;
  • Assisting at other locations as directed;
  • Implementing established policies and procedures as directed;
  • Handling physician requests with respect and in a timely manner.

Minimum education requirements include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Employee must be 18 years of age or older;
  • Minimum typing experience required;
  • At least one year of supervisory experience preferred;
  • In Virginia and Maryland, bachelor’s degree in medical technology or chemical, physical, or biological science and a minimum of two years of training/experience required and four years of experience preferred;
  • In Pennsylvania and New Jersey, a bachelor’s degree in medical technology or chemical, physical, or biological science and a minimum of six years of training/experience required;
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of medical technology principles, concepts, and methodologies sufficient to perform a broad range of testing. Knowledge of mathematical and statistical methods sufficient to calculate and convert analytical data to test results is required;
  • Knowledge and skill sufficient to use and maintain laboratory instrumentation;
  • Knowledge of related disciplines to integrate and correlate test results with other
  • laboratory data and clinical information;
  • Must be able to sit, stand and walk for long periods of time (possibly 4 to 7 hours at a time);
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required;
  • Ability to prioritize and deal with numerous tasks at one time;
  • Willingness to work at any center due to a staffing or center emergency or a reduction of work.
