We are seeking an Quality Control Lead Hand Technician to join our Wine Quality Team!
Reporting into the National Technical Manager, Wine Quality, The Quality Control Laboratory Technician, Lead Hand will be responsible for executing required analysis in a fast-paced lab of harvested juice, wine samples and distilled spirits throughout the winemaking/distilling process in an accurate and timely manner. As well as ensuring the Food Safety/HACCP and ABS requirements are met and for providing technical support and assistance to the Winemaking/Distiller, Packaging and National Quality Service Departments.
This role is comprised of rotating shifts including mornings, days and afternoons, as well as late evenings during our harvest period (August - December). Additionally, occasional travel will be required to our Trius property.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for managing the workflow, scheduling, issuing NCRs, training, product releases, research, and working closely with winemaking and processing lead hands, and more.
  • Accountable for verifying the accuracy of all chemical analyses as measured through diligent QA protocols and proficiency test participation.
  • Responsible for careful handling and sample preparation of all test items to maintain integrity and prevent cross contamination.
  • Responsible for adherence to all Food Safety/HACCP and ABS requirements including participation in internal and 3rd party audits and in all Health and Safety initiatives within Laboratories and manufacturing facilities. Follow WHMIS requirements and provide for safe and clean working conditions including proper handling and disposal of hazardous chemical waste.
  • Direct Bottle Shop personnel to make adjustments and document actions when non-conformances are identified during daily on-line inspections to ensure regulatory and quality compliance.
  • Responsible for approval of product for release to bottling to ensure on-time start-up.
  • Provide verification of Co-Packed products to ensure they are inspected to meet quality requirements.
  • Execute Food Safety verifications procedures including water sampling, allergen and sanitation status of processing equipment; direct Cellar/Bottle Shop personnel to correct failed verification tests of tanks and processing equipment to bring equipment into regulatory or quality compliance.
  • Responsible for understanding regulatory/quality limits, identifying non-conformances, reporting and following non-conformance procedure using specialized software.
  • Responsible for maintaining traceable record of all activities and procedures while maintaining a secure LMS data base.
  • Responsible for maintaining analytical equipment in good operating condition including routine calibrations and assisting with troubleshooting when equipment malfunctions to ensure validity of results.
  • Ensure all methods are adhered to until new method development is completed before any changes are made to ensure integrity of testing is maintained.
