ABOUT THE ROLE
You will define and document the welding production processes and activities including welding process maps to build all the welded components of Military vehicles.
The Quality Officer Welding will fulfil all requirements of this role as required to ensure ongoing conformance to the DIN 2303 Q3 welding certification for MILVEHCOE. The role will collaborate with onsite and international production team to determine and implement the most efficient production / welding process outcomes, based around governing weld standards, Lean principals, cost reduction and elimination of waste to build a BOXER vehicle.
As the Quality Assurance Officer for Welding, you can anticipate some of your day-to-day tasks to include:
- Support and supervise the overall design and manufacturing process of armoured steel welding assemblies;
- Provide expert guidance in welding technology, development of welding procedures and production plans;
- Support with all required certification activities to ensure ongoing conformance to the DIN 2303 Q3 Welding qualification and other Welding certifications and regulations;
- Develop, document and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Weld process maps throughout the life of the program to include any necessary changes, including process efficiency improvements;
- Work collaboratively with Leading hands and Welding / Construction employees to determine the most efficient methods and construction sequence to build the welded components of a military vehicles.

- Support the Operations team during production ramp up with commissioning of the facility and implementation of relevant welding and construction processes;
- Perform routine visual, dimensional and functional inspections and objective tests for in-process production and finished goods and evaluate completed measurement reports of production welded assemblies;
- Ensure that all products have been tested per requirements and fall within standards; Assist in identifying Non-Conforming product and documenting all identified Non-Conformances;
- Raise Corrective Action Requests; and
- Maintain and update quality assurance instructions, guides and other relevant documented materials within the Quality Management System for quality inspection activities.
The experience and skillset best suited to this role includes:
- Experience working as a Welding Quality Officer;
- Proficient with current 3D measurement techniques including scanning technologies, CMM, and the ability to interpret measurement reports against drawings;
- Experience with dimensional stack problem solving in multi-part welded assemblies;
- Experience working with destructive and non-destructive testing (NDT) techniques, especially in relation to welded steel vehicle assemblies;
- Experience working in a defence, automotive, aviation, manufacturing, process or maintenance environments;
- Demonstrate experience working in an assurance, compliance or Quality role;
- Demonstrated experience with 8D and A3 tools;
- Relevant Trade Qualification in Welding, Fabrication, boilermakering or related discipline;
- International Welding Technologist (IWT) or International Welding Specialist (IWS) certification;
- International Welding Inspector (Standard) or ISO 9712 VT Level 2;
- Ability to read and interpret standards, engineering drawings and customer specifications;
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint);
- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and in a team environment with high attention to detail; and
- Must hold or be eligible to obtain an Australian Government Security Clearance (must hold Australian Citizenship)
