In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health), staff and patient safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.
Reporting to a Manager of Quality Assurance and Contract Monitoring (QACM), Long-Term Care, the Quality Resource Leader is a contributing member of the Department’s Quality Assurance and Contract Monitoring Team and will participate in processes that determine both Departmental operations and strategic objectives. To facilitate operationalizing the Long-Term Care Quality Framework, the Leader may provide coaching and mentoring to Long-Term care home staff on key quality improvement initiatives (e.g., falls prevention, wound care, dementia care).
The position is geographically nimble and will work throughout the region and potentially the Health Authority. Travel is a requirement of the position. Transportation arrangements must meet the operational requirements of Island Health in accordance with the service assignment and may require the use of a personal vehicle.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

A level of training, education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or a related healthcare field and five (5) years of related experience. Knowledge and experience with quality improvement, long-term care, and/or infection prevention and control preferred. Relevant certification also preferred such as Gerontology Nursing Certificate (GNC) or equivalent, Quality Improvement or Change management certificate.

  • Ability to work independently using own initiative and to make decisions guided by standards of practice, Public Health and WorkSafeBC regulation, and health authority policies and procedures
  • Comprehensive understanding of healthcare technology and work processes
  • Demonstrated commitment to client-focused services and teamwork
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written formats
  • Superior investigative, analytical and creative problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to teach in both individual and large group settings
  • Ability to interact with others effectively, often in highly charged emotional states
  • Ability to maintain confidences of personal employee health files and matters
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment
  • Demonstrated ability to operate a PC utilizing MS Office software applications and databases
  • Physical ability to carry out the position
  • Valid BC Driver’s License
