POSITION SUMMARY

This role will be responsible for developing and delivering optimisations that span the full quantum software stack, from applications to compiler to hardware/controls. Candidates should have familiarity with both software development and quantum computation.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, physics or directly related field. Graduate-level experience in quantum technology.
  • Experience with open-source quantum software frameworks such as Cirq or Qiskit; Ideal candidates will have experience not only using these libraries but also modifying them
  • Fluency in Python programming
  • Strong work ethic and drive; Appetite for working at the frontiers of quantum technology
  • Adaptability in a fast pace setting
  • Orientation towards execution
  • Good collaboration skills, able to work in a team environment where engagement and participation are an expected part of successful job performance
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, able to effectively share information with technical and non-technical staff

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Familiarity with concepts in quantum computing such as error correction / fault tolerance, native gate decomposition, qubit mapping and routing, and variational quantum algorithms
  • Familiarity with best practices of professional software engineering such as coverage, integration tests, type checking, unit tests, and version control
  • Experience with backend development with tools such as Flask for web frameworks and PostgreSQL for databases
  • Experience with cloud development, especially on AWS and GCP
  • Familiarity with CI/CD, automated actions, issue tracking, version control, and other features on GitHub
  • Familiarity with security core best-practices such as access control, encryption at rest, key rotation, and logging

Responsibilities:

The duties and responsibilities outlined below include essential functions of the role. Depending on business needs, this role may perform a combination of some or all of the following duties. Duties, responsibilities, and activities may change, additional/new activities may be assigned on an at needs basis.

  • Deploy software optimisations to our cloud platform (Superstaq - our quantum benchmarking suite) with industry-grade software engineering procedures including documentation, linting, testing, and type-checking
  • Develop full-stack quantum software optimisations: these optimisations can span the full stack, from algorithmic improvements, compiler optimisations, and pulse-level control techniques to force-multiply the capabilities of underlying quantum hardware (We target both NISQ and fault-tolerant hardware)
  • Interface with customers of Superstaq to understand their needs and support them in a timely fashion
  • Carry out cutting edge quantum technology R&D (research and development).
  • Conceive, prepare, and manage funding proposals to multi-million-dollar programs across the globe
  • Other duties or projects as required
