Description:

If you are an R&D Lab Engineer professional looking for an opportunity to grow, Emerson has an opening for you! Based in our Houston, Texas location, your technical expertise in product testing, Gas Chromatograph (GC) design and performance standards, and analytical application knowledge will be demonstrated in New Product Development (NPD) and sustaining projects for our GC product line. You will collaborate with multi-discipline teams to identify test requirements, set test criteria, and implement test plans for the maintenance of existing GC applications or the expansion of a GC’s analytical capabilities. You will also be hands-on in the development of test fixtures and equipment setup to produce high-quality test data to support findings and recommendations. Your understanding of the product’s design and its performance limitations will be an important contribution to the overall Engineering team’s strategy for current and future projects.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS THAT SET YOU APART:

  • Familiarity with gas chromatographs used for industrial gas analysis.
  • Familiarity with process sample system design and function.
  • Familiarity with OIML R140, GPA 2172/2145 metrology standards.
  • Familiarity with UL, CSA, IECEx, CE/ATEX safety standards.Familiarity with ISO 9001, ISO/IEC 17025, IEC 80079-34.

Responsibilities:

IN THIS ROLE, YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES WILL BE:

  • To maintain the Houston Engineering lab, including asset management, 5S events, equipment calibration tracking, and safety activities. You will ensure continuous compliance with Emerson safety standards and regulatory lab qualifications.
  • To use measurement devices and software to collect and analyze data, operate specialized equipment such as environmental chambers and fume hoods, and work with other electrical or mechanical devices as needed.
  • Handle and utilize gas samples, from cylinder bottles or other sources, as required.
  • Read and interpret electrical and mechanical drawings, technical manuals, product design standards, GC performance standards, and other industry-related materials.
  • Design, develop, and handle test units and fixtures to provide testing of hardware or software prototypes, solve customer or production units, and set sample units needed for regulatory agency approvals and certification.
  • Provide technical expertise to Emerson staff and customers as required. Host occasional visitors from approvals bodies for product witness testing.
  • Participate in the NPD and product-sustaining processes by providing technical data, interpretation of data, or any other related activities as required.
  • Collaborate with multi-functional teams to define test requirements and criteria, produce test procedures and reports, and ensure high-quality analysis and interpretation of test results.

FOR THIS ROLE, YOU WILL NEED:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Chemistry
  • Two (2) or more years of engineering or technical experience.
  • Two (2) or more years of Experience with product development/test in a lab environment
  • Experience with handling and utilizing gas samples, from cylinder bottles or other sources
  • Hands-on experience in the development of test fixtures and equipment setup
  • Experience with asset management, 5S events, equipment calibration tracking, and safety activities
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States - Sponsorship will not be provided for this role
