Position: Principal Technologist

Location: Calgary, Canada – Hybrid
As a Principal Technologist in the Industrial Automation Domain, you will be responsible for providing strategic technical leadership and guidance in the design, development, and implementation of cutting-edge automation solutions. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive innovation, ensure technical excellence, and deliver high-quality solutions that meet the needs of our clients in the industrial sector.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide expertise in industrial control systems, PLC programming, SCADA systems, and HMI design.
  • Architect and design scalable, reliable, and secure automation solutions tailored to specific industrial requirements.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and trends in industrial automation to identify opportunities for innovation and improvement.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional development.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements, define project scope, and establish technical specifications.
  • Conduct feasibility studies, risk assessments, and performance evaluations of automation solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and best practices in industrial automation.
  • Lead troubleshooting efforts and provide technical support to resolve complex issues in automation systems.
  • Stay abreast of industry advancements, attending conferences, seminars, and workshops as necessary.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field. Advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 15 years of relevant experience in industrial automation, with a strong emphasis on SCADA systems and visualization using .NET technologies.
  • Extensive proficiency in SCADA development, particularly with WPF (Windows Presentation Foundation) for creating rich and interactive graphical interfaces.
  • In-depth understanding of cloud-related technologies and their integration with SCADA systems for scalability, reliability, and data analytics.
  • Proficiency in programming languages like .NET commonly used in industrial automation, with expertise in integrating visualization components into SCADA applications including Infragistics, Syncfusion & Telerik controls.
  • Experience with software development methodologies, version control systems, and agile practices, particularly in the context of SCADA visualization projects.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to design intuitive and user-friendly interfaces for monitoring and controlling industrial processes.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into visual representations.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Certification like Microsoft Certification, Brainbench certification & Scaled Agile certification
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, and experience in leveraging cloud services for hosting SCADA systems and storing/process data.
  • Knowledge of IIoT (Industrial Internet of Things) platforms and their integration with SCADA systems for real-time data visualization and analytics.
  • Proficiency in data visualization tools and techniques, with experience in creating dynamic dashboards and reports for monitoring industrial processes.
  • Understanding of cybersecurity principles and best practices for securing SCADA systems, particularly in cloud environments.
  • Experience with machine learning algorithms and predictive analytics, and their application in enhancing SCADA visualization for predictive maintenance and process optimization.
  • Prior experience in leading technical teams or projects focused on SCADA visualization, with a demonstrated ability to drive innovation and deliver results.
  • Knowledge of industry-specific regulations and standards related to SCADA visualization, such as compliance with FDA guidelines for pharmaceutical manufacturing or safety standards in critical infrastructure sectors.
  • Strong background in cloud-native development practices, including microservices architecture, containerization, and orchestration tools like Kubernetes, for building scalable and resilient SCADA visualization solutions.
