R&D - Senior Software and Systems Engineer

At NOVO Energy we enable Volvo Cars to go fully electric by 2030. We are now looking for a Senior Software and Systems Engineer. We offer you a role with great freedom to solve the tasks required to support the organization, you will be a key player in shaping the software landscape at NOVO Energy.
You will, together with a small team, develop a state-of-the-art Battery Research Platform to enable the R&D researchers and engineers to push the boundaries of automotive battery cell design. We are NOVO Energy, a start-up, with the benefit of funding and expertise from our two strong mother companies, Northvolt & Volvo Cars. You will report to the R&D Cell Platforms Director (managing Cell Design Department) and work cross-functionally, collaborating closely with the battery cell developers and other parts of the R&D organization, as well as Volvo and Northvolt.
What You’ll Do
Our primary mission in the Software Team is modeling, collecting, and making available the data from our research lab to the organization through our Platform. This ranges from handling manual data entry from CRUD applications to machine integrations ingesting millions of data points per day.

• Communication and Collaboration. You will work together with researchers, designers, and engineers to understand and turn their requirements into tasks in the software domain.
• Architect and own robust, secure back-end data pipelines and storage. Create responsive front-end software for R&D teams to use, from manual data entry forms to database queries to dynamic graphs and charts.
• Adapt to fast-changing internal requirements and deliver responsive changes of the platform and supporting software.
• We are a small team. You need to be comfortable with fixing things when they break and take ownership of your solutions end-to-end.
  Your Background

To thrive in the role you need to have an entrepreneurial spirit and a “can do” attitude in combination with the below technical skillset:

• Proficiency in SQL Databases
• Relational databases (E.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, MariaDB, MSSQL, etc)
• Columnar/Time-series databases (E.g., Clickhouse, StarRocks, Timescale, Hydra, etc)
• Experience with Software Infrastructure
• Workload orchestration (E.g, Kuberenetes, Nomad/Consul, Docker-Swarm, etc)
• Cloud Infrastructure (E.g., AWS, GCP, Azure, etc)
• Data pipeline Systems (E.g., Kafka, AWS Kinesis, RabbitMQ, EMQX, etc )
• Experience in Software Engineering
• Back-End development (E.g., Rust, Go)
• Basic Front-End development (E.g., Type/Javascript, Underscore, jQuery, etc)
• Bonus points
• Knowledge in Data Science/Engineering practices and tooling (E.g., dbt, Python with Jupyter Notebooks, etc)
• Experience with Industrial Iot and Industrial protocols (OPC-UA, MQTT, Modbus, Profinet, etc)
