Summary: The R&D Technical Scientist, Tablets & Capsules assumes responsibility for the floor support and scale up batches of Tablet, 2 piece hardshell capsules and coating projects via interaction with Operations, Technical Services, VP of Product Development and the R&D Team.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for the on-going planning, scheduling, tracking and updating of all scale up batches of tablet, capsule and coating projects to ensure timely delivery
- Develops formulations and processes to support the development of new products and/or optimization of existing products. Leads benchtop and pilot development and supports manufacturing trials for new or reformulated products. Effectively troubleshoots and solves complex formulation & technical challenges with speed and robustness
- Review and/or approve final formulations when necessary
- Demonstrate the ability to resolve complex technical issues
- Provide guidance, instruction, and training to Production team members in regards to tablet, capsule and coating projects
- Direct cross-functional teams to take product from development to manufacturing
- Directly participate in the development of large, difficult projects
- Interact with upper management in communicating project status, issues and resourcing
- Review and approve raw material specifications, deviations and other documents as needed.
- Maintain current awareness of competitive products and technologies
- Evaluate and approve new raw materials and raw material substitutions
- Develop and review procedures, protocols, and specifications needed to support product development scale up activities
QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- A minimum requirement of a bachelors of Science in Chemistry, Engineering, or related technical field and a minimum of 5 years experience in tablet, 2 piece hardshell capsules and coating
- Comprehensive knowledge and practical experience in product/process development, processing laboratory techniques, regulatory requirements and a firm foundation in basic sciences
- Must have proficient computer skills that include word processing and spreadsheet use
- Effectively prioritize and multi-task to complete work and meet deadlines
- Have strong problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects accurately and effectively
