Description:

Position Summary
The R&D Test Engineer leads the execution of prototype fabrication, assembly and testing of components and final assemblies. Product features include structural weldments, hydraulic components, electrical devices and limited product software. The position is a contributor to the application of industry specifications and the lead for creation of internal test procedures, reports and process standardization. Additional duties include problem solving assistance for production issues, as requested, and ensuring proper calibration and maintenance of R&D area equipment. This position is instrumental in sustaining product lines and providing feedback to our Engineering and Production teams on new product and prototype developments.

Essential Functions

  • Perform electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic assembly of products and prototypes
  • Perform electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic testing of products and prototypes
  • Participate in cross-functional R&D projects
  • Collect and document, and provide quality, completeness, and assembly feasibility feedback to the Engineering dept. on prototype builds
  • Use CAD software to create and revise engineering models and drawings
  • Understand and apply your knowledge of electrical, electronic, mechanical and hydraulic systems to troubleshoot and repair products
  • Provide technical assistance to production shop floor
  • Perform R&D area equipment set-up and preventive maintenance, develop procedures, and train team members
  • Develop processes, standards, and templates for test specifications, procedures and reports
  • Develop a strong technical working knowledge of Tronair products
  • Effectively work with internal and external customers and suppliers
  • Responsible for scheduling prototype activities and completing tasks on-time
  • Ensure that R&D area is maintained and organized to comply with the stringent cleanliness and component contamination requirements of aircraft ground support equipment

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering Technology required
  • Experience with hands on assembly and testing of mechanical systems
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience with repair of mechanical and/or hydraulic equipment
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience creating CAD models and detailing drawings
  • Computer proficiency especially with MS Office suite Excel, PowerPoint, MS Word
  • Proficient in the operation of common troubleshooting tools including Multimeters, Oscilloscopes, and Loop calibrators
  • Proficient with the use of hand tools including drills, wrenches, and saws
  • Proven ability to gather and analyze data, write reports, and create technical documents
  • Demonstrated problem solving and troubleshooting skills and the ability to learn new technical information
  • Strong Mechanical Aptitude
  • Customer focused with a strong team orientation
  • Familiarity with ERP and PDM system
  • Proficiency with data acquisition instrumentation and data analysis tools

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5 years’ experience in a test lab environment
  • 5 years’ experience with Solidworks modeling and detailing
  • Experience with Solidworks Vault
  • Proficiency with ERP systems
  • Experience with programming PLC and HMI systems
  • Experience in the Aviation industry

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time, particularly when working on the computer
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time, particularly when in the manufacturing facility
  • Ability to lift or move up to 25 pounds occasionally unassisted
  • Ability to bend or stoop occasionally
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to follow all safety requirements
  • Ability to use standard office equipment (copier, fax, telephone, computer, etc.)
  • Specific vision abilities required in this position include close, distance, color and peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • At such times, a greater amount of physical exertion, standing and walking would be required.
  • Ability to travel as required (driving, flying, etc.)
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and be insurable by the company’s insurance carrier

  • Manufacturing shop and office environment
  • Exposure to noise, fumes, and dust, while in the manufacturing facility.
  • Office environment is usually quiet.
