Description:
Responsibilities:
- Establishing strategic systems and processes and to manage multiple issues and make decisions impacting on the racing industry and regional Queensland communities against a regulatory framework.
- Developing a forward plan to ensure strategic decision-making is integrated with broader government objectives.
- Managing the Commission’s business, always with an eye to key performance expectations.
- Operating in an environment of competing priorities.
- Distilling critical issues from tactical and operational matters and directing resources to deliver objectives.
- Identifying and building collaborative and purposeful relationships with key stakeholders to deliver value to the people of Queensland.
- Building a constructive organisational culture.
- Developing organisational capability and performance culture with a clear talent management strategy which recognises and nurtures leadership potential.
- Establishing and effectively managing the Commission’s policies and procedures to ensure accountability and transparency in the decision-making processes made by the Commission, in the eyes of the public and key stakeholders.
The Racing Integrity Commissioner reports to the Minister responsible for racing under the relevant legislation and is accountable for:
- Delivering high quality and effective services
- Exercising sound judgement and risk management practices in decision-making
- Driving the effective, efficient and appropriate use of resources
- Driving workforce and leadership practices that build a constructive culture with a focus on integrity, performance, capability building and personal accountability and nurturing of leadership potential
- Maximising the competitive advantage of a diverse and inclusive workforce
- Driving collaboration and building quality partnerships within the Minister for Racing’s portfolio
- Partnering with government and other sectors to optimise performance.
In addition to the legislation relevant to the Commission, the Commissioner has a range of legislative responsibilities including:
- To secure the health and safety of workers and workplaces in accordance with the Work Health and Safety Act 2011
- The provision of advice to government through the Minister for Racing, regarding the functions and administration of the Commission
- Head of the agency as if a chief executive under the Public Sector Act 2022
- Ensuring the equality of employment opportunity and non-discriminatory work practices as outlined in the Public Sector Act 2022
- Demonstrating ethical behaviour and integrity as required by the Public Sector Ethics Act 1994.
