Description:

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Technical leadership and management experience in health physics, including experience in radiological policy/procedure development, health physics technical applications, performance assurance, and implementation of RP regulations and requirements.
  • Proven leadership experience in managing a team that adheres to radiation protection program procedures, policies, and conduct of operations.
  • Demonstrated track record of effective technical leadership, emphasizing organizational skills, strategic planning, team building, program development, project management, budgeting, financial management, and employee development.
  • Proficiency in evaluating metrics, events, and performance feedback to improve programs, manage risks, and address vulnerabilities.
  • Experience in interpreting and applying radiation protection programs, DOE regulations and guidance, and industry standards relevant to radiation protection and conduct of training.
  • Demonstrated expertise in developing and leading process improvement initiatives.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Advanced degree in an applicable field.
  • Knowledge of LANL radiation protection and LANL management systems and requirements.
  • Experience administering the requirements of DOE radiation protection training and qualification programs.
  • Significant professional-level experience in radiation protection at DOE and/or NRC facilities.
  • Certification by the American Board of Health Physics (CHP).

    Ability to speak, sitting, standing, reaching overhead, typing or keyboarding, and occasionally climbing stairs and ladders.
    Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
    Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Responsibilities:

Utilize your radiation protection (RP) and management skills to do something that matters! Los Alamos National Laboratory-one of the most innovative and creative multidisciplinary research institutions in the world-is looking for an experienced radiation protection professional to provide leadership and oversite for RP programs. This is a unique opportunity with great growth potential to support national and global security.
Reporting to the Group Leader of Radiation Protection Programs (RP-PROG) within the Radiation Protection Division, the Deputy Group Leader (DGL) will assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of the Radiation Generating and Radiological Sealed Source Program, Radiological Engineering Program, and Technical and Regulatory Programs (which includes procedures and policy, records, assessments, issues management, and RP computer software and application support). As the DGL, you will provide technical leadership, strategic direction, and oversite to approximately 15 RP professionals who administer the afore mentioned RP-PROG programs.
As a part of the RP-PROG Group, you will provide support and insight to the additional programs within RP-PROG. The additional programs within the RP-PROG Group include RCT initial and continuing training, RCT hiring and pipeline, and Radiological Worker training. You will promote safety, security, and quality in all operations, exercise prudent fiscal responsibility and property management, promote teamwork within the organization and across the Laboratory, and promote a positive work environment and safety culture.
