DESCRIPTION

Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Quality Engineer to work in our Environment, Safety, Health and Quality department. Our team works onsite with a 4x10 schedule located out of our Material and Fuels Complex, Idaho Falls, Idaho with every Friday off.
You will report to the Quality Manager and serve as a Quality Engineer (QE) to support the Radioisotope Power Systems (RPS) Program which assembles, tests and stores power systems for space vehicles like the Mars Science Laboratory (Curiosity), Mars 2020 (Perseverance), Pluto/New Horizons, and the Dragonfly missions.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelors’ of Science Degree
This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy “Q” clearance, which requires US Citizenship.

Responsibilities:

Under guidance, develop and improve RPS Program Quality processes, documents, and records; provide improvement suggestions on RPS quality-related documents and record keeping processes; work with and provide quality-related training to RPS Program operators, RPS Quality technicians, technical staff, and engineering; and interface with internal and external RPS customers (e.g., RPS Engineering, Aerojet Rocketdyne, Department Of Energy) and participants in quality-related matters.
Under management, review historical and current engineering, fabrication, work planning, operation and maintenance instructions, and procurement documents for compliance to RPS Program and BEA quality requirements; provide recommendations for solutions to quality compliance and implementation issues, working with internal and external RPS Program participants; determine appropriate inspection hold points in processes, and prepare inspection plans; issue and track non-conformance and other deficiency reports through closure; oversee configuration and records management activities for RPS Program activities, approve tool folders, and prepare data packages to support completion of major RPS deliverables. Handle generated records and following RPS requirements.
Under guidance, verify fabrication, assembly, and testing operations or inspections as called out in procedures and other work control documents; perform general inspections for RPS Program equipment and materials; and perform surveillances and assessments of RPS Program-related operations and quality-related matters. Ensure that records are being handled and maintained in accordance with the RPS Records plan.
