Description:

Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation trust in conjunction with the Peritoneal Malignancy Institute, Basingstoke wish to appoint a Clinical Research Fellow in Radiology, for a fixed term of 12 months. The post-holder will work clinically in the Radiology department on the Basingstoke site and undertake clinical work focusing on peritoneal malignancy and GI radiology, alongside 4 consultant GI radiologists, though also contributing to the general work in the department. Working in association with the Peritoneal Malignancy Institute, Basingstoke, they will also undertake research into peritoneal malignancy radiology.
A key responsibility of the post will be to support the pseudomyxoma/peritoneal malignancy service, in conjunction with GI colleagues, with timely reporting and review of external imaging and attendance at relevant MDT meetings.
It is envisaged that the post holder will have a subspecialist interest in GI oncology and/or GI imaging. The peritoneal malignancy unit regularly hold courses and study days and radiology involvement in teaching, education and research is expected. The candidate will also contribute to the general workload of the department and should be competent in plain film reporting, cross sectional imaging (CT/MR), fluoroscopy and ultrasound.
The successful candidate will not be expected to take part in the on-call rota.
The surgical treatment of patients with pseudomyxoma and peritoneal malignancy is carried out on the Basingstoke site by a specialist team of colorectal surgeons who are part of the Department of General Surgery and Urology.
The colorectal unit is a nationally and internationally recognised centre of excellence for colorectal cancer. It is one of the centres for the National Minimal invasive surgery colorectal training programme pilot and runs national MDT TME courses with live rectal cancer surgery. The Unit provides a comprehensive colorectal service with colorectal, inflammatory bowel disease and pelvic floor MDTs. The hospital is also a major referral centre for liver surgery, performing more than 100 resections per year. The Unit is also a nationally and internationally recognised centre of excellence for teaching and running courses on rectal cancer, laparoscopic colorectal surgery and peritoneal malignancy.
The Pelican Cancer Foundation is based In the Pelican Centre in the Ark at Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital. It is dedicated to improving surgical cancer care through the provision of surgical research and training.
