Here at Hitachi Rail, we have a unique and exciting opportunity for an experienced Infrastructure & Construction Programme Manager to join our Facilities and Maintenance division. Within the role, as the Infrastructure & Construction Programme Manager will lead and be accountable for management and delivery of depot Infrastructure & Construction large scale, complex and high value projects across all of our UK depots. The expectation is that you will successfully manage these through the entire lifecycle, therefore prior rail industry experience is a must.
The Infrastructure & Construction Programme Manager will manage, govern and deliver the Capex prioritisation plan, whilst working across a wide range of senior stakeholder both internally within Hitachi Rail and externally such as sub-contractors and 3rd party suppliers. Due to the nature of the projects, the successful candidate must have worked in a highly technical, rail environment and must be comfortable managing large scale complex construction projects.
Due to the nature of this role and the geographic coverage, it is essential that the successful candidate be willing to travel on a regular basis around the UK.

Other role responsibilities include:

  • Work with all Business stakeholders including Operations Delivery heads, Engineering teams, Finance, Procurement, Contract Managers, Legal team, Materials and Facilities teams to deliver the required improvements for the business.
  • Proactive attitude to risk management and identification of cost saving opportunities, will be required to raise risk registers for project budgets and manage the HAZOP process on larger projects as required, handing the project risk and safety register over to department leads.
  • Production of a fully linked Microsoft Project Plan used to manage the feasibility, design phases, tendering phase, construction phase, testing & commissioning systems through to stakeholder handover of TMC improvements.
  • Responsible for the Management, Governance and Delivery of the TMC improvement project Plan without compromise to time, cost and quality.
  • Regular co-ordination of weekly / monthly meetings with internal & external stakeholders to ensure projects are progressing to plans. Is required to produce documents and slides to present monthly project slide packs to the senior management team & stakeholder groups.
  • Act as chairperson in meetings as required, including minute/note taking, issuing task out and driving the work streams to positive completion.
  • Programme control, including interfaces & dependencies for delivery of the TMC improvements.
  • Management of the projects design stages through GRIP 1-8, including the delivery of key HAZOP, HAZID, IDR, IDC meetings in each phase. Review of all design documentation produced by external providers & management of subsequent RFI & Change Request processes for all design stage approvals.
  • Management & analysis of the full tendering process.
  • Responsible for project budget management & forecasting.
  • Resolution of any emerging internal or external conflicts, escalation to the Senior Operations Delivery Manager when necessary.
