Description:
- Camp Weredale has been located on Lac L’Achigan in St Hippolyte since 1934. The camp offers learning opportunities and outdoor and camping activities for boys and girls between the ages of five to seventeen years of age who are being followed by child welfare services or who are in difficult family situations.JOB DESCRIPTION:As REAL Team Leader, you would be in charge of our eldest campers aged 16 and 17 years old also known as the REAL Team. These campers support and participate in camp activities as well as work part-time in the kitchen. They also participate in workshops throughout the summer that work themes pertaining to Responsibility, Experience, Awareness, and Leadership (REAL).RESPONSIBILITIES:
- To participate in pre-camp training and orientation.
- To play an active role in promoting a positive and constructive camp environment.
- To lead by example and be a role model for the REAL Team members.
- To aid in planning and implementing REAL Team activities.
- To aid in the supervision of the REAL Team as to manners, work assignments, eating habits and behavior towards fellow REAL Team members, campers and staff.
- To ensure the safety and well being of all REAL Team members.
- To participate in the evaluation process of the overall performance of The REAL Team and their related programs.
- To assist in making any necessary changes and recommendations concerning the REAL Team programs.
- To attend all scheduled staff meetings and participate in formal and informal supervision with Camp Directors.
- To write a year-end report stating any concerns and recommendations for the following season.
- To respect all camp policies, procedures, guidelines and rules.
- To perform all other related tasks as requested by the immediate supervisor.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Must have completed Secondary 5 and preferably one year of college.
- Must have prior camp experience.
- Prior experience in a leadership position would be considered an asset.
- Must have excellent communication skills.
- Must have the ability to relate to older children.
- Must be able to lead by example.
- Must be a ‘team player’ who is flexible and willing to work in concert with other specialists and assist when needed.
- Must be comfortable in, and respectful of, a group living environment.
- Must be punctual and capable of respecting a camp preset schedule.
- Must be emotionally mature and willing to accept responsibility.
- Belief in the individual worth of the camper.
- Must be capable of respecting confidentially regarding camper medical, behavioural issues and family history.
