NOTE: This posting represents a part-time, seasonal position for the Fall and Winter semesters working 28 hours/week, according to the particular work schedules assigned. Current schedule: Monday-Thursday 1 pm - 9 pm.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Diploma of Collegial Studies (three-year technical DEC) in Information and Library Technologies.
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills are essential; this must include evidence of aptitude for and interest in service-oriented work; evidence of ability to handle queries and complaints with courtesy, tact and good judgement; ability to give instructions and explain procedures clearly.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop basic search strategies and to locate and interpret bibliographic records and documents in a variety of online platforms is required.
  • Evidence of ability to interpret policies and to solve problems with flexibility and good judgment.
  • Evidence of ability to organize work, establish priorities, and to perform clerical duties with special attention to accuracy, detail and deadlines; the ability to work with a minimum of supervision is essential; ability to shift from one activity to another and to cope with interruptions.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with supervisors and co-workers in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Outlook and Windows and of managing electronic files in a Windows environment is required. Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel is required; knowledge of PowerPoint is an asset. Intermediate knowledge of Internet navigation is required.
  • Knowledge of web-based collaborative platforms for communications, document sharing etc.
  • Demonstrated interest and ability to learn new technology, software applications and platforms on an ongoing basis; ability to adapt to changing technologies.
  • Proficiency in oral and written English language communication essential (level 4); basic knowledge of spoken French is a minimum requirement (level 3); fluency is preferred.Physical stamina is required to push a book truck and to lift heavy volumes, while paying attention to personal safety and the safety of others, and to stand for periods of at least 90 minutes.

  • Contributes to, and sometimes organizes and/or leads, library events and/or activities aimed at ensuring students are aware of library services, resources, spaces.
  • Contributes to a variety of communication channels including but not limited to social media, digital signage and displays

Responsibilities:

Provides frontline reference services assisting users with a wide variety of library and information needs, including but not limited to:

• Assists in developing and maintaining documentation that supports both internal operations and users.

  • Develops procedures documents for various activities in the unit and maintains them on the library’s intranet using established guidelines and templates.
  • Assists in keeping public facing webpages accurate and current; may draft content for webpages in areas relevant to reference and outreach work.

• Assists with tasks associated with other user-support services or librarian projects as needed e.g. maintaining web-based guides, course reserves processing, open access support, etc.

  • Provides input on issues and improvements relating to workflow, policies, and procedures.
  • Promptly reports issues or problems according to established procedures for security incidents, building maintenance problems, system failures, equipment problems, etc.
  • Collects and reports relevant statistics and shares user input/feedback.
  • May have opportunities to participate in library projects and/or committee work.
  • Other duties as assigned.
