Description:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Live in or relocatable to Florida. Preferably within 1-hour of St. Cloud or Punta Gorda.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Chemistry or related field. Professional license preferred.
  • Minimum of five or more years of previous experience in solid waste industry.
  • Willingness and ability to travel fifty 50% of the time including but not limited to overnight trips, meetings, trainings, and conferences.
  • Experience working within a highly regulated industry.
  • Previous work experience in Florida with regulators and regulations (State and/or local).
  • Construction project management experience
  • Excellent oral and written skills
  • Experience in communicating with government officials and departments

Responsibilities:

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Lead various engineering construction and permitting projects.
  • Support our customers and sales team in identifying and optimizing waste handling solutions.
  • Review and understand all permits governing the landfill and provide guidance to Landfill Managers to ensure site compliance.
  • Participate in landfill, transfer station, material recycling facility, and hauling site environmental audits.
  • Review and support the development of environmental monitoring reports and plans (e.g. solid waste, SPCC, SWPPP, GHG, groundwater monitoring, and Title V).

MINIMUM RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform technical duties relevant to environmental, health and safety, and compliance issues at landfills, transfer stations, and hauling operations.
  • Provide assistance in fulfillment of all technical/regulatory/operational documentation related to the landfills, transfer stations, MRF, and hauling operations.
  • Analyze data and prepare summaries, recommendations and cost estimates for consideration by Region Engineering Manager and/or Landfill Managers.
  • Participate in on-site technical visits to satellite sites to review and evaluate operational efficiency of yellow iron equipment and systems at various facilities. Site visits will involve exposure to environmental elements which include dirt, odors, noise, and weather extremes.
  • Assist the Region Engineering Manager and/or Landfill Managers in reviewing design and development plans, calculating cost estimates for completing proposed projects and evaluating the engineering proposals and specifications.
  • Compose and/or review third party consultant’s technical reports to document engineering analysis, solutions, and results.
  • Represent the organization in conferences to resolve important issues and to plan and coordinate work.
  • Participate in team meetings
  • Develop Site Managers on landfill operations, compliance, and regulatory correspondence.
  • Apply standard engineering practices and techniques in specific situations, adjust and correlate data, and recognize discrepancies.
  • Desire to be a leader in the company’s engineering and environmental program and to learn and grow all business sectors across the company.
  • Ability to follow established procedures with minimal amount of direct supervision.
  • Ability to interpret documents such as safety rules, contracts, federal, state and local regulations, engineering design and operating plans, maintenance and procedural manuals.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, interpret data and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to predict and manage future compliance needs and adapt to changing regulatory environments.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with sales team, operations team, outside consultants and vendors, and customers.
