  • Attractive VPS 5 salary between $ 106,534 - $128,897 + superannuation

    DJCS Emergency Management
    Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS) Emergency Management includes the department’s emergency management accountabilities delivered through Emergency Management Victoria, Emergency Recovery Victoria, Sector Performance and Reform and emergency management statutory entities and offices. The work of the group supports the emergency management sector to work together and to strengthen the capacity of individuals, communities, government, agencies and business to achieve our shared vision of safer and more resilient communities and to rebuild and recover after an emergency.
    Emergency Recovery Victoria
    Emergency Recovery Victoria (ERV) is responsible for state and regional coordination for all emergencies to help communities build back better and emerge stronger. ERV is a business unit within the Department of Justice and Community Safety. Working directly with impacted communities, all levels of government, agencies and industry, ERV coordinates real, effective and timely support that communities need to recover after a major emergency. As well as providing strategic leadership on whole-of-government recovery activities and delivering state recovery outcomes, ERV supports locally led recovery efforts to support councils and ensure that community is at the centre of recovery.

The Regional Recovery Coordination, Operations and Programs Division under ERV has established three operational teams as follows:

  • Regional Recovery East – Hume, Eastern Metro, South East Metro and Gippsland regions
  • Regional Recovery West - Loddon Mallee, North West Metro, Barwon South West and Grampians regions
  • Recovery Programs Coordination and Delivery - responsible for the establishment and delivery of recovery programs at a state, regional and local level.

About the Role
This role supports the planning and coordination of activities related to Aboriginal Culture and Healing Recovery programs within the South West Region (Barwon South West and Grampians).

Responsibilities:

SOME OF YOUR DUTIES WILL INCLUDE:

  • Engaging with Aboriginal communities in disaster-affected areas to understand impacts and consequences and provide support and referrals to grants and programs to improve the wellbeing of Aboriginal communities.
  • Collaborating with delivery partners and stakeholders to identify and define issues, develop and prioritise initiatives, and proactively understand and mitigate risks to meet the needs of Aboriginal communities affected by disasters.
  • Evaluating and critically analysing complex and sensitive issues that are linked to Aboriginal Community recovery concerns.
  • Providing timely, expert advice to the Director, Regional Recovery to address and manage concerns affecting recovery program outcomes that enable evidence-based decision making and developing logical, practical, and well-balanced solutions.
  • Supporting the South West team to implement the Strategy for Aboriginal Community-led Recovery.

    About you

TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL HAVE:

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with members of the Victorian Aboriginal community.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the Victorian Aboriginal community, both society and culture and the issues impacting on it.
  • An understanding of the Victorian Traditional Owner framework and Aboriginal Community Controlled organisations networks and their relationship to Government.
  • Qualifications related to policy, emergency management or management highly desirable.
  • Experience in disaster recovery is desirable.
  • A strong understanding of the processes and levers that apply to Government.
  • A Victorian Driver’s Licence and ability to travel as required is a requirement of this role.
