Whyalla Hospital and Health Services is part of the Whyalla Eastern Eyre and Far North Health Service, and is a modern, comprehensive health unit. Whyalla provides a wide range of services utilising local general practitioners, resident specialists, visiting specialists and telemedicine for people in the surrounding areas.

Responsibilities:

The role of the Community and General Dietitian within the Better Care in the Community and General (BCIC) framework involves applying clinical expertise, both generalist and specialist, to design, execute, and assess a comprehensive array of services tailored to the specific requirements of the local populace. Operating with lessened clinical oversight, the BCIC Dietitian may also play a role in supervising less seasoned allied health professionals, assistants, and students. As an integral part of a multidisciplinary team comprising various healthcare professionals and service providers, the BCIC Dietitian employs a blend of preventive, early intervention, treatment, and assessment methodologies. BCIC initiatives prioritize delivering specialized care to individuals grappling with intricate cardiac, respiratory, and endocrine chronic conditions.

The objectives of the program encompass:

  • Reinforcing the primary healthcare infrastructure in regional South Australia to proficiently manage hospital admittances, curtail emergency room visits, and abbreviate hospital stays.
  • Dispensing evidence-based, patient-centric care to individuals contending with chronic ailments.
  • Furnishing chronic ailment management services in close proximity to individuals’ residences, thus mitigating unnecessary travel and disruption from rural areas.
  • Partnering with Aboriginal Health Workers and Aboriginal Community Health Services to offer tailored chronic disease services and elevate care standards for Aboriginal communities.

This vacancy is currently a full-time position however consideration will be given to part-time contract availability and hours of work will be by negotiation and salary will be adjusted according to hours worked.
