Description:

Robert Half Executive Search has been retained to search for a Regional Finance Controller by a company headquartered in Regina, Saskatchewan. The company has over 30 dealerships and service centres mainly in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario, as well as a few US locations. The company also has the latest vehicles for sale and lease in their showrooms and online; they furthermore offer exciting and progressive automotive options for automotive, collision, motorsports, marine, rental car, leasing and recreational vehicles.
The Regional Finance Controller is a senior financial management role reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer and the President. This position will be responsible for the finance & accounting of numerous business units in Regina and the surrounding areas within the overall company. This role furthermore oversees all aspects of this regional area and the multiple dealerships and stores. This position also oversees accounting and finance and requires ensuring the timely and accurate reporting of all consolidated regional financial positions. The role incumbent will also provide support to the CFO for various special projects such as analysis, ad hoc reporting, or due diligence for future acquisitions. This role will interact with the President as well as those who may request project analysis from time to time for related business decisions.
This Regional Finance Controller has a breadth of responsibilities from supervision of the team and monitoring systems to ensuring compliance with local, provincial and federal requirements. This individual’s scope of responsibilities also includes following GAAP (ASPE), protecting financial assets and managing inventory, in consultation with the sales management. In addition, the role incumbent will be responsible for reviewing business processes as well as recommending and implementing efficiencies and process improvements, as needed. This role specifically oversees the auto dealerships in Regina and the five controllers and accounting team that manage the accounting & reporting. In addition, this role involves performing hands-on accounting for the “in house” car leasing company as well as ensuring appropriate staffing levels are achieved.
This position will also interact with the other controllers in other provinces and the United States and as such, a key requirement of this position will be the ability to interact cross-functionally and interdepartmentally.
This role is a full-time in office position located in Regina, SK.
Accountabilities/Measurables
The success of this role can be measured by the following metrics:
Providing in-depth, ongoing financial monitoring of all business units to ensure profitable billings, positive cash flow and proactive identification of actual and potentials hurdles as well as the identifying the corresponding corrective actions.
Ensuring a deep, local comprehension of gross margin, gross profit and accounting procedures and driving consistent gross margins in alignment with organizational expectations.
Meeting deadlines such that financial information is accurately and consistently reported.
Maximizing discounts earned to drive enhanced profitability.
The Regional Finance Controller provides leadership to the organization to ensure the achievement of budgeted financial results by performing the following duties:
Financial Reporting & Compliance
Manages all aspects of audits, taxation, accounting, insurances and banking for the regional stores in collaboration with the CFO.
Prepares, audits and publishes timely, accurate and complete monthly financial statements and reporting packages on a regional level.
Directs the operations of the accounting including deal posting, inventory management, accounts receivable posting and collection, accounts payable, payroll, GL management, as well as month end and year end closings.
Ensures ongoing financial compliance with provincial and federal requirements.
Analyzes, consolidates and directs all accounting practices, ensuring ongoing training & education for the team as well as ensuring that there are appropriate staffing levels for all tasks.
Manages the accounting operations including financial controls and transactional-processing operations; ensuring all group policies and procedures are complied with.
Implement new procedures in consultation with the CFO for the smooth running of the business.
Oversee that ongoing bank reconciliations are completed on a timely basis.
Ensures that A/P discounts are maximized.
Manages timely payout of sold units, curtailments, interest, etc. to the company’s financial partners.
Manages the ongoing, accurate and timely execution of payroll processing.
Budgeting/Forecasting
Coordinates and directs the preparation of financial forecasts and budgets for the regional stores in accordance with regulatory and corporate requirements.
Manages all aspects of budgeting for the regional stores in collaboration with the CFO.
Calculates variances from budget and financial targets, reporting on issues and advising on corrective measures.
Requirements
Accreditations
Accounting Designation or similar preferred; CPA, CMA, CGA, CA, ACCA or MBA.
A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field is typically required.
Systems and Subject Matter Knowledge
Specific experience in the automotive industry is highly valued, as it provides an understanding of industry-specific challenges, regulations, and financial processes in the Auto dealership and/or Auto finance space.
Experience
Ideally 10+ years of overall experience in progressively responsible roles, such as financial accountant, assistant controller, controller or regional controller.
Knowledge of ASPE accounting principles & financial reporting standards and relevant regulatory filings is essential.
Prior experience budgeting & forecasting.
Prior experience managing, developing and leading a team of 4-10.
Proficiency in financial software and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, such as Sage 50, MS Excel, CDK Drive, PBS and Serti is ideal.
