Reporting to the Global Head of Security & Business Resilience, the Regional Security Lead is the center of excellence in the field of Security & Business Resilience within their designated region covering Trafigura, its subsidiaries, divisions and Joint ventures.
Accountable for development, implementation, management, and continuous improvement of a Regional Security Management programme supporting Trafigura teams & sites in execution and implemention of security controls.
Main Purpose
The role works across subsidiary, division and facility HSSE professionals and Leadership teams.
The role is also responsible for providing security and business resilience support to Trafigura’s offices in the assigned region.
The position as Regional Security Lead in Trafigura requires physical security skills and expertise, risk management understanding and know-how within physical security design, contracts, and the ability to ensure implementation of physical security management systems, procedures, security supplier KPI’s and associated technology.
The position requires relocation to Montevideo, Uruguay (arranged by the company).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Previous experience with physical security and risk management porcesses and procedures. Minimum 5 years of experience in a corporate security department
  • Understanding of security risk management within global organisations
  • Recognized degree in business/resilience/risk management/ASIS CPP
  • Experience with travel security risks and advice
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills - Able to independently produce material for training and awareness

  • Communicates Effectively – Developing and delivering multi-mode communications that convey a clear understanding of the unique needs of different audiences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Management Support: support Regional Leadership teams to conduct threat & risk assessments and build security plans
  • Provide ad hoc security advice to leadership and partners
  • Support development and implementation of a security plan for the region, including within transportation, supply chain, B2B, B2C petrochemical business, logistics and extraction industry.
  • Incidents: Respond to/support crisis/incident/emergencies that affect employees and/or assets including investigations and loss prevention strategies
  • Intelligence: Regional intelligence collection and analysis – to identify and anticipate threats/risks and mitigate or reduce them towards travellers, employees, physical assets, reputation, or overall operations
  • Contractors & Controls: Assessing contractor & control performance and proposing improvements based on threat & risk assessment
  • Education & Training: Fostering a security culture by educating and raising awareness across the region
  • Cooperation & Collaboration: Establishing cross-company/divisional collaboration optimising security resources across the region
  • Networking: Developing and maintain a regional network of internal stakeholders, external partners, local law enforcement and security providers to drive improvements across the region
  • Support facilities by consulting on physical security systems and processes
  • Support service efficiency improvements working closely with our vendors/partners and ensure the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights.
  • Support travel security advice, monitoring and management

The Team
You’ll be working in Security and Business Resilience as part of CHESS (Communities, Health, Environment, Safety and Security) and based in the Trafigura Montevideo office (LATAM). The role will be responsible for hands-on and practical delivery of operational security management within your region. You will be developing the regional framework for physical security, monitoring, and tracking relevant security threats, intervening, or escalating where appropriate to ensure that arising risks are mitigated.
You will report to the Global Head of Security ande Business Resilience, based in Geneva.
As a physical security specialist and lead, you’ll play an important role in acting as a direct contact and problem-solver for business partners, including HSSE leads, General Managers, contract mangers and others from the operating companies and subsidiaries throughout the region.
You will work closely with colleagues within office/facility management, HSE and Business Continuity.
About the position
This is a new position, created to strengthen our work within physical security and to further support the regional operations of Trafigura.
You will be expected to travel frequently in your region to perform risk assessments, interact with colleagues and vendors, follow up on projects and mitigation plans and get a deep understanding of the business needs across many different types of assets, installations, and operations.
You will build a network of internal and external stakeholders, with whom you will regularly interact and support. This includes law enforcement, security companies and suppliers in the region.
You will also be an important part of our incident response in the region and expected to contribute to the teams working with business continuity planning and crisis management plans and response.
Travel will be an essential part of the job, both planned and ad hoc to respond to specific issues. It is essential that you are able and willing to travel often and with short notice.
It is important that you are comfortable with interacting and working with different nationalities and cultures. This role will be required to build relationships broadly in the region and to help navigate national and regional interests to ensure the best security solutions for the Group.
