Join our Association’s Sports Team as a Regional Sports Director!
Job Description
The Regional Youth Sports Director is responsible for the Association development and overall program delivery for all Youth Sports programming, communication, talent acquisition, staff support, retention and engagement, and budget and fiscal management for assigned branches. This position is based out of the Mid Valley Family YMCA in Van Nuys, but does require travel between YMCA’s in the San Fernando and Antelope Valleys.
Qualifications
- AGE: 21 years or older
- EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree or documented successful experience (1-year experience for each year of required education up to 4 years) in the field of health and wellness, Physical Education, or other related field, preferred.
- RELATED EXPERIENCE: A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in the youth sports field with at least one (1) year of supervision experience.
- SPECIALIZED SKILLS: Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency. Maintain current CPR, AED, first aid, and emergency oxygen or acquire within 60 days of hire.

Essential Functions
- Effectively communicate the mission, vision, and values of the YMCA.
- Help plan, implement, and develop age-appropriate youth and adult sports/recreation programming across both branch service areas.
- Develop and manage long and short-term budgets designed to support the Association Strategic Plan.
- Complete and submit financial variance reports monthly for review with supervisor.
- Manage forecasts to meet Association Operating Plan.
- Maintain systems for variance analysis, revenue, and expense monitoring, and control.
- Leads promotional efforts for our sports/recreation programs at local schools, and adjacent communities.
- Work together alongside Regional Team in developing Association Partner Sports Leagues, Special Events, and Initiatives.
- Implement developmentally appropriate sports programming.
- Foster positive relationships with staff, members, and volunteers.
- Provide ongoing leadership, professional guidance, and development to staff.
- Assists branches in the development of their sports budgets.
- Successful management of fee-based programs into ActiveNet.
- Ensure high-quality programs through innovative program development, audits, and evaluation.
- Provide direction on overall participation growth in all leagues.
- Guide staff on providing a safe and clean program environment/area.
- Communicate regularly and effectively with staff (cluster meetings, meetings with branch staff, etc.).
- Maintain complete familiarity of all risk management procedures and policies for department areas.
- Provide coverage and leadership at the branch level, when needed, at a variety of times (evenings and weekends).
- Attend staff meetings and trainings as required.
- Uphold YMCA policies for safety, supervision, mandated reporting, and risk management.
- Demonstrate the Six Pillars of Character (Trustworthiness, Citizenship, Respect, Responsibility, Caring, and Fairness) as well as the YMCA Core Values of caring, respect, honesty, and responsibility in all dealings with members, guests, volunteers, and fellow staff.

STAFF DEVELOPMENT
- Recruit and hire staff using screening tools and panel interviews to gauge the best fit with each position opening.
- Onboard and ensure staff complete New Employee Orientation and the appropriate new hire trainings.
- Provide direct supervision to department staff and volunteers, on-site and off-site, assuring that all staff and volunteers are qualified and are meeting minimum performance standards for their position.
- Review and evaluate staff performance once a year.
- Provide positive and corrective feedback to staff on regular basis.
- Provide training for staff and volunteers on an ongoing basis through staff meetings, personal consultation, association special courses, and workshops.
- Hold regular staff and volunteer meetings for each assigned branch. Document meeting minutes and training records accordingly.
- Maintain current records for all staff that require certifications and send copies to HR to be kept on file. Ensure that all job descriptions and performance standards are accurate, current, and on file for all employees.
- Maintain high level of staff professionalism by modeling and enforcing staff policies, including association required staff uniforms and name tags.
- Guide staff with development opportunities and trainings.
- Develop backup plans to ensure appropriate staff coverage in all Youth Sports programs, including coverage for vacation and sick time as needed.
- Assist the branch management team in maintaining high staff morale, high staff retention, and positive results from the annual staff satisfaction survey.
- Ensure all Youth Sports staff and volunteers are actively building rapport with participants and parents.
- Attend staff meetings and trainings as required.
